Question about 1999 Honda Accord

1 Answer

HEllo I have 99 Accord. Most days when I start out it runs fine, but once it is started after it is turned off for awhile, it hesitates. It does this for the fist mile or two. It acts like it has no power, then surges, and keeps repeating this. When it does this the rpms fluctuated. It will do this in "park" as well as in "drive." Any ideas would be appreciated!

My Honda accord 2003 has trouble starting first of the day. Starts fine for the rest of the day, what could this be?

One thing that happens on older Hondas is that the fuel pressure bleeds off when they sit overnight. The fuel pump puts out 40 psi, and the system is supposed hold that pressure when the car is off. The check valve is weak. Then you try to start it and with no fuel pressure it takes awhile to start, and may run rough for a few seconds. To see if this is the cause, on your first start of the day, turn the key on but don't try to start it. When all the warning lights are on. The fuel pump will run for 2 seconds, then turn off. If it is quiet enough, you might hear it, or the main relay clicking off after 2 seconds. Cycle the key on for 2 seconds and then off, do this 5-6 times. Then try to start it. If it starts right up, you know the problem. Most people just accept this, because the check valve is part of the fuel pump, and this isn't cheap.

I do not have a vehicle manual so need to know: The car will not start --has been starting with hesitation for few days--and on the dash is a red flashing light with a key symbol--what does this...

If you find a red key flashing it means that the car has got antitheft system fitted. Is your car alarmed? What about the key, has it got a remote?
