Question about 2003 Chrysler Concorde

I replaced the solenoid pack in my 2003 Chrysler Concorde LXI, after doing so and reinstalling everything then filling to the correct level with ATF+4 transmission fluid, the car would roll backwards easily in reverse but when shifted into any of the forward gears it would move forward only about a foot then stop suddenly as if I shifted it into park. I did not have to remove the tranny from the vehicle to swap the solenoid pack neither did I touch any of the shift linkages. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Stephen

    Originally the check engine light came on and I got three (3) codes related to the transmission. The symptoms I was having at the time were that whenever highway speeds was reduced to 40 mph or less the vehicle would suddenly downshift into second and the RPM would be high but not an indication of a slip. I wasn't able to maintain highway speeds until I pull over on the shoulder then shutting off and restarting the vehicle, this seems to reset everything. I was told by an expert online that the solenoid pack required replacement.

    I did remove the valve body to gain access to the solenoid pack and two (2) piston like devices each with two (2) springs in their open ends fell into the transmission fluid pan. Since I couldn't get a hold of a decent repair manual for the vehicle, I reinstalled the valve body and the piston devices pointing downwards with the springs in the cupped (or opened) end.

    There is however one small piece of metallic hardware that was found it in the oil drain pan and I am not sure if it belongs to the transmission or not. It looks like some sort of clip. I photo scanned it and placed a link below. Let me know if think this is a significant part of the Tranny.

What were the issue before you replaced the solenoid pack?why did you?check engine light? kinda sounds like a park paw issue! but don't really make sense because it goes in rev. did the valve body getremoved?

    yes that is you issue. the valve is not in properly and causing the pressure to go in a directional it is not suppose to. that is a retaining clip possible for a solenoid. i couldn't really see it i got hit with a pop up when i open that page so i got out of there. but that is your issue for sure.

    the pan will have to be removed nd a arts breakdown is the only way you are going to get it back to normal. thats the best i can do. if you want to email me the picture and i will research it for you i will. emil

Transmission fluid pressure...If the fluid level is ok the most likely cause is the 2/4 clutch's pressure switch itself. This is located in the solenoid pack mounted to the valve body.The solenoid pack isn't that bad to do on a hoist, but it will be a pain to do on the ground. You have to drop the valve body, which can be tricky and there is the potential for some pretty serious damage if not done correctly. It would take you a few hours to do.

before doing anything, make sure your coolant level is up to the mark on the reservoir bottle, and that the car actually reaches correct operating temperature. on this car, temperature is easy to check because there's a gauge on the dash. after warming up, the needle should be about half way up. if it isn't, replace the thermostat.

if none of those things are wrong, then there's a malfunction in one of the blend doors in the hvac box. gaining access to that is extremely involved and best left to a very experienced mechanic.

What function does the solenoid pack and valve body serve on the transmission on a 2003 concorde.

This controls the transmission, it controls the flow of oil through the trany, by iopening and closeing valves, with out this working correctly the trany will not shift correctly.and some times you will get a check engine light.

Try disconnecting the battery for five minutes and then reconnect. This may reset the memory in the radio.

the resovoir hold pressure its not uncommon to find them like that .. but before it overheats put your hand on the upper and lower radiator hoses and feel for them to be flowing ... i guess if they are different its a thermostat...not opening after 180 f ...
