  1. Just pull the cotter pin out take the nut off .
  2. Hit the side of the casting with a hammer where the tie rod is pressed in until you can take it off by hand or it falls out
  3. Just make sure you measure the threads on the tie rod before u screw it out and turn the new one on as far as the old one was
  4. Put the new one on in reverse order, no pounding is needed as the nut will pull it back into the wheel connection.

Replace steering rack on 2004 grand prix

Jim, this is not a hard job but you must do it right. I suggest you purchase the Chilton Manual for your car. Before you take it apart mark the location of the outer tie rod ends so you can have the toe-in at least close when you reassemble. You might want to replace the outer tie rod ends at the same time. If i am buying a rebuilt unit i always try to get a "A-1 Cardone complete unit" with the inner tire rod ends already factory installed.

My pass.side inner tie rod is bent due to accident.how do i replace it?

disconnect it from the outer tie rod, remove the boot from the steering rack , you will need a special tool to get at the inner rod cap, remove and install new , then get the car aligned, not an easy job and hard to get at

How do i loosen the outer tie rod end to remove it from the bushing once tie rod is out of streeing knuckle i know it will need to be aligined and i need to count treads when putting new outer tie rod end...

You may need a propane torch to heat up the nut on end of outer tie rod. With tie rod still attached to steering knuckle try to loosen the outer tie rod end nut that is connected to inner tie rod. Pull tie rod end back out of knuckle. Use pliers or vise grips to hold inner tie rod end while turning outer tie rod end to the left.

How too change inner tierod on 2005 pontiac g6

If you have electric steering(no power steering pump)you have to change the entire steering gear assembly as no part is available. If you have the system with a pump a part is available. In order to change the inner tie rod you would loosen the 21mm lock nut on the tie rod.remove the 18mm nut on the outer tie rod and spin off after removing the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.Remove the nut and the inner and outer clamps on the tie rod boot.remove the boot. You would then need a special inner tie rod tool to turn the threaded inner rod from the steering gear.

Any info on tie rods

You have left and right inner tie rods and outer tie rods on your car.
You also have lower ball joints which can wear loose too....not to mention the left and right struts and upper strut bearings.

A cheap (China) tie rod may last only a year.(plastic inner wear points)
A good quality tie rod may last 10.(nylon and/or metal wear points)
