I have a 2000 BMW Z3 and today when I went to start it I inadvertently let the key back off from the 'start' position before the engine had started...right after that, and still now, it only clicks and will not start. The owners manual talks about not running the starter too briefly but offers no advice if you do.....help??

with the engine off put it in any gear and rock the car back and forward this should hopefully disengage the starter
