My window broke a year ago, and if I don't stick a sponge in there, it won't stay up. I didn't know you could change it yourself, I think it's one of those things you want to get a professional for. You have to get into the door, and you don't want to put it back together wrong. Auto Electrician Services in Gold Coast

My 99 monte carlo passenger side window will go down but won't go up. I have changed the switch and the motor ans still having this problem. Help! What else could it be?

If there is no noise from the motor at all, and you changed the single passenger switch, the problem may be in the driver's switch. Sometimes the juice from one switch has to go through the master switch. Also, there could be a break in the wires inside the rubber boot between the doors and pillar posts. You can slice through the bottom of the boots, peel apart, and look for open wires.

Drivers side window wont go up. What are the possible, most likely problems?

Did the window go down like normal or was it sluggish? If sluggish it could be the motor, sometimes with the key turned on holding the switch in the up position pound on the trim panel middle or slightly below center with your hand if the window starts to move it's the motor. If the window went down normally it's probably the switch. Look at the dome light when operating the switch if the light dims it means the circuit is complete and it's most likely the motor, if the light does not dim the switch or wiring is bad, try the switch first. One word of caution changing a motor can cause bodily injury if you've never changed a motor before take it to a mechanic as the regulator is spring loaded!

The spring is there to assist the motor whe going up. It is highly recommended to install the spring or early motor failure will occur.

Electric window for driver side failing to move glass, can i replace the motor myself

You can if you are handy and have some tools including the tool to remove the upholstery panel from the door. I have not worked on a Grand Am. Generally, the motors are bolted in to the door frame, though some are rivited. You might need a pop rivit tool. You will have to inspect for this when you get the panel removed. You will also need a large (long shank #3 probably) phillips (maybe a TORX). Pay attention to the electric connections.

Expect to pay up to $150.00, maybe a little more, for a operator (the motor and stuff attached to it. Remember, it is spring loaded and there are many, many sharp edges inside where you will need to put your hands, wrists, fore arms, etc. Also, expect to leave a little dna behind. The window is also heavier than you expect given the cramped space in which you will be working.

I am not in the auto reair business but have successfully changed about a dozen of these operators over the years. My best advice is when you purchase the rebuilt part at the auto parts place, casually ask the counter person if there is anything special you should be aware of while changing the motor. These people always hear the good, bad and the ugly about the parts they sell.

Driver side electric window wont go down.have replaced the window motor assemble and replaced master switch and still not working. its on 99silverado

I believe there is a relay that needs to be reset after you replace the motor. Get a tester and make sure the wire is getting electricity to it too and that it's not just a fuse that's the problem. Hope it helps!

TWO OF MY WINDOWS WONT GO UP OR DOWN

The motor that powers the window up and down is probably shot, and needs to be replaced. This requires removing the door panel, drilling out the power window mounting rivets, removing and replacing the motor. I have a 96 grand am, and over the last 3 years I have had to change all 4 power window motors. Not the best quality motor.
