Question about 2002 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

The vehicle has very bad gas mileage and ivebeen told by several retired mechanics that because the exhaust smells strongly of sulfer that the problem is a filter around the cataytic converter area i was wanting to know where that filter or even the catalytic converter is located so i can remove and clean it or replace if needed.

WHY DO I GET SUCH POOR GAS MILAGE ON MY CAR

A vehicle like that won't give a poor gas milage for nothing. The dealer just don't want o deal with you. I own a 2009 Nissan Versa, which is one of the best gas milage car you can get, but right now is spending way too much gas. In my case the problem is the spark plug and the air filter, and it should be good to go. Have it diagnostic. Good luck.

Gas Fumes in Air Vents

This could be as simple as a hole in the exhaust under the cabin area. I would also check that all cylinders are firing properly. They can do a fuel pressure test to make sure there is nothing wrong in the line as well.

What's the problem of my mitsubishi mighty max the gas mileage is 10 miles a galloon?

can you smell raw fuel when the vehicle is running? smell the exhaust when its idling.. if it smell like fuel really strong, you need to replace o2 sensor.. the o2 sensor is what tells the vehicle the air/fuel mixture, thus if one is bad it will either run rich (uses too much fuel) or lean (dont get enough fuel) hope this helps.. also check out the fuel press. regulator if your vehicle is equiped with one.. the o2 sensors will usually kick the check engine light on.

2005 Chevy Impala exhaust smell

neither one of these would cause gas to leak. sure it is not coolant ? if you think it is gas it is not safe to drive car as it could catch on fire. possible cause would be a leaking injector.

Idle low then hi, and gas smell, and bad gas mileage

This should show up easily on the ECU diagnostics computer at a mercedes dealership. Basically your fuel mixture is way too rich causing your car to be heavy on gas, have a raw gasoline smell, and not run right. Something like this can be caused by a defective oxygen sensor (but that usually produces a check engine light) or it might even be a defective ECU. There is really not way of knowing for sure until you do a proper diagnostics where they hook up your exhaust at the same time and do an emmission test. In most cases it's some sensor that needs replacing.
