2001 Eldorado "tappet" noise

I just looked at a 2001 Eldorado with 72000 miles. Overall the car looked to be in very good condition, but upon starting the engine I could detect what I would describe as "tappet" noise. Being a private sale, this drove me away.

What do you think?

If the noise goes away after a short time then I would say that the owner did not do enough oil and filter changes.A few good quality oil and filter changes may help clean the engine up.And keep the oil and filter changes coming at no more than 4000 miles between changes. And let the engine warm up for a least 10 minutes before driving the car. If the tap stays then you dont want it.
I hope this helps you.

You did good at noticing the noise. Depending on the price and the condition of the car I would say you did the right thing. Due to the fact that they could say it is only a rocker arm or whatever but, once you open it up you are committed to the repairs and could be opening up a big can of worms. This is due to milage and you don't really know how well the car was taken care of. Smart move covering yourself Good Job!!!

My 92 eldorado has a ticking sound when car drives the noise came out no where from the passager side is it my oil pump it gets lounder when gas is apply

What is the oil pressure when ticking starts? How many miles on engine? How often do you change oil? What oil do you use? What brand filters do you use? Is this a Northstar engine?

High mileage Northstars (and others) will have tappet noise as they wear. You might try adding a quart of Marvel Mystery oil at next oil change, but if low oil pressure is the problem, try changing to a slightly thicker oil, say 20-50. If you don't know what the oil presure is, install a mechanical guage. I had a freind with a low pressure problem on very high mileage car who began using straight 50W oil and car ran another 3 years/60K miles before dying.

Deceleration noise

I would have to say that your front wheel bearings are no good and need replacing that is the usual sound they make and the pitch changes threw out the driving speeds and corners I would say.

My 2001 sienna makes a loud tapping noise upon startup, but then quits after 10 seconds. Is this serious?

That will depend on what is making the tapping sound. If it is coming from the top of the engine, it is likely to be the tappets which will quiet down when they get oiled and warm.

My brother is looking at an 01 grand cherokee with 88000 miles he's 21 and has a kid and girlfriend just wondering what the life expectancy is on these jeep the one he's lookin at is fully loaded laredo...

The Grand Cherokee has been a well-proven SUV since it's introduction in 1993...many improvements have been included since the first model...The Laredo is usually the sporty version...just under the Luxury trimmed Limited. Parts and service are available everywhere...a great plus when Chrysler purchased Jeep a few years back too. They do hold value well, but the best bet to compare purchase price now would be to contact your Bank for Loan Value figures on the 2001 with 88,000 miles. The rule of thumb is if you can purchase the Jeep for the Loan Value amount...it is a great Deal. Also you can look on-line for other similar Jeeps and see what they are selling for. At 88,000 miles some wear items may need attention...ie struts, brakes, tires, tune up parts...fule and all filter changes...Ask to see a service record if possible to see what repairs have been needed...ie carfax info on certain repairs...The Grand Cherokee is worth checking out. A great car for single, or Family...Hope this helps...:)

Bmw 318i 1990 noisy tappets

well this could be a wide array of problems based on the conditions such as how often has oil been changed? how many miles on car? low oil pressure light coming on? the first thing i would try is getting some of that engine flush and following the directions, then when you add oil put in an additive that is designed to help get depoits out of the engine, only drive it about 500 miles and repeat, if the noise is better try doing this a third time By doing this i have solved enginge noises that other dealers have diagnosed as a bad engine, It is by far the cheapest solution i can offer good luck and let me know

Crank - Piston Rod Bearing Replacement - Queston

You will have to have the crankshaft machined if the rod bearing is the cause of the noise, so you will have to pull the engine, if u don't do the crank the bearing will fail in a few miles.
