If the car has A/C, turn it on which should force the fan on. If it still won't run, make sure the fan itself turns freely by hand and that there are no blown fuses. The coolant sensor tells the computer, which turns on a relay, which turns on the fan. The fan motor can be checked by removing it's electrical connector and applying +12 volts and chassis ground to the motor--it should run. The computer could have a defective output circuit which means replacement of the computer (that should show up with the check engine light 'on'). That covers about everything but a broken wire, or a loose connector.

You need to get hold of a meter to run a check on the coils of the fan, set it to a low impendance and see if there is a resistance through the motor or even a circuit through it

Or you need to make up a test lead using a reasonable size cable with a 35amp in line fuse in it

Attach one end to the battery and they other to the positive terminal of the fan, if the fan runs then you are back to chasing a lost power supply

2003 ford thunderbird coolant fan not working

Most likely a 20 amp fuse. If the fuse is good, Find the coolant fan relay(under hood). Check to see if fan runs with A/C on. If the relay is good, the fan will run continuous with the A/C on. If the fan does not run with A/C on, The Relay is Bad. Check the fan by unplugging the relay and install a 14 Ga. jumper into the normally open terminal position(socket) If fan runs with jumper, check the remaining 2 positions in the socket for Voltage(13v.) If voltage is present, relay is bad. If voltage is not present, Temperature sensor(signal to relay) is Bad. Leave jumper in place to keep from over heating engine. Fan should stop running when Ignition switch is turned off. This engine will blow a head gasket if over heated. A service manual is recommended for component locations and troubleshooting.

I have a 1994 Ford Escort LXE- the car runs hot when idling or driving at slower speed. It appears it has overheated from looks of overflow. When driving it will remain at normal, with defrost on and fan...

Check and make sure that your fan on the radiator is coming on.when it gets hot do you hear anything like a fan running if not its probably a coolant fan relay. If your ac is working when it starts to heat up turn it on and you sould hear a fan runing and it sould start cooling down if you dont then check fuses .I wish I was close to you and I could check it out for you and save you some money .I have 3 in college and 1 just starting to drive .Been mec. for 35 years .If you want to email me and I will try to tell you what to do rbmuffin1976@yahoo.com Im in N.C. if I can help.Yes and I have 3 daughters too!!!

99 ford escort running hot . i replaced the thermostat. flushed the radiator . had the synsors checked . no leaks no noice. is it my radiator?

You may need your radiator rodded and cored. But, before you do that check the relay that controls when your electric fan engages to pull air through your radiator. The sensors that control the electric fan are usually in the side tanks on the radiator. This sensor heats up and tells the fan when it needs to make the electrical connection to engage the fan to cool the radiator coolant. I would probably bet that is what is malfunctioning. They are a relatively inexpensive part. Good luck.

Ford Escort 1.9L - The fan for the radiator does not come on and the car overheats. I have checked the fuse & its fine and there is water/coolant in the radiator. What can it be?

if the car is overheating whist driving it normally and not sat in traffic then it could be as simple as the thermostat needs replacing, are you using water if so your head gasket could have gone as for the fan the temp sensor could have gone unplug it and short the connections on the wiring the fan should start up ( ignition on) if it does replace the sensor

I have a 1994 chevy cavalier 2.2L engine. the engine fan does not turn on causing the car to over heat. What makes the fan turn on, is it a thermostat or a fuse?

REPLACE THERMOSTAT BUT IT SOUND LIKE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.BUT CHECK COOLING FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD HOT WIRE COOLING FAN IF COOLING FAN WORKS.PROBLEM COULD BE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. DAMAGE FAN WIRING OR FAULTY PCM.IF COOLING FAN DONT RUN WHEN HOT WIRED.REPLACE FAN AND MOTOR.

My car over heat. i have 1994 galant

first that you should check is the coolant level. It may have been caused by low coolant level. Next is the radiator fan if it is working. You can do that by removing the socket of the temperature sensor at the lower radiator hose towards the engine. The fan should turn on. If it does not it may be the relay or the fan. See if you can swap the AC fan relay (assuming the ac fan is running) and the radiator fan relay. If the fan does not turn on you may need to replace it or check the wiring. Check as well for leaks in the hose or the engine. You may just need to tighten the clamps on the hose or you may need to replace the water pump. Check as well the radiator cap as escaping steam from the system contribute to the increase in temperature.

Cooling fan comes on late in my 1994 ford escort 1.9

My 94 Escort had a problem with the fan relay connections at the relay, I had to remove it and the wires connected to it from the distribution box, this is complicated and not normal, but to check your relay, you will find it in the distribution box on the left fender close to the front underhood. The temp sensor is located in the steel portion of the heater line bolted to the block at the back of the cylinder head under the intake tube, there are two sensors there one for the guage and the other for the fan relay. Hope this helps, let me know

Cooling fan module???

cooling fan module just refers to the fan, the motor and the shroud. There is no electronic module.
The fan has relays for protectin and the engine computer oerates it when it gets siganls from the engine coolant temp sensor, the A/C being on, etc.
what is your issue?
