There should be two hex head bolts located on the side of the trany one directly above the other lower one to drain upper to fill may need to pick up a hand held fluid pump found at most any auto part stores

My 2001 Dodge ram 1500 will not shift into reverse, all it does is rev tranny fluid is good, and it drives fine in drive

The reverse band on transmission is out of adjustment. To correct this, drain the transmission fluid and remove the filter. After removing the filter you will see an adjustment screw with a locknut looking down. Back the locknut off 4 turns. make sure the adjustment screw turns freely. tighten the adjustment screw to 72 in-lbs of torque then back off 3 turns, hold the screw to keep it from turning and tighten the locknut on screw to 25 ft-lbs. Replace the filter and fluid, install pan on transmission. hope this will help you.

1998 dodge ram 1500 2wd 5.9 eng. how to change

just drop the transmission pan to drain it and the filter is right there in the valve body,DON'T mess the band adjustment, they are only to stop the planetary gears so you can go into reverse, there is no such thing as adjusting bands! that went out with the fifties!

No, this is more likely an indication that you have deeper problems within the transmission.

97 ram 1500 4wd will just shift out of o.d. pushing the o.d. button has no effect on it but if you turn the truck off then start it again it will shift fine. no other tranny problems.

This is one of the first signs of Dodge transmission failure. Hunting between second and third around 45 MPH is another sign. I would drain some of the transmission fluid, and look for foreign particles is the fluid. If it is as I suspect you should change the filter and the fluid immediately. The particles I am expecting you to find will be aluminum from your torque converter, they are not magnetic and will not show on the dipstick.

What kind of tranny will work to replace mine?

Yes. They should both be 46RE transmissions and the bolt patterns and the plugs should be the same.

2004 dodge ram 1500 3.9 auto trans problem

Check fluid level first. See if fluid smells "burnt". The signs are the tranny is dying. Don't go far in this vehicle until you've taken it to a shop you trust. They will pull the drain pan and inspect. Next sign of death will be a whining in the transmission as the suction strainer for the pump becomes clogged with the clutch material. Good Luck.

2001 dodge 1500 4x4

did you drain the fluid, it may have lots of metal and be really gummed up causing it to over heat and burn off. Aside from that the most commonly overlooked "check engine" proplem is the O2 sensors, there should be 2 of them
