Question about 2005 GMC Canyon

Best way remove front hub from spindle 05 colorado 2 wd rusted

I can get all the bolts and hardware (pads ,hanger caliper ect) off the hub but can not get the hub free from the spindle. i need replace the rotor i have tried a porta power type system without success i do not want to bend anything this is a 2 wheel drive truck

To get mine out I threaded the hub bolts almost all the way back in and used a air hammer on the bolt heads to push it out

  1. "Place the Transfer shift in the 2H position.
  2. Raise and support the front of the vehicle safely on jackstands. (rear tires chocked, and hand brake set hard)
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4. Loosen the hub to rotor retainer bolts.
  5. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts and carefully remove the caliper (along with the brake pads) from the rotor. Do not disconnect the brake line. Secure the caliper out of the way with the flexible line still connected.
  6. Remove the hub nut using hub wrench J-29020-A or equivalent. ( special tool)
  7. Remove the hub cap assembly retainer bolts. Remove the spindle nut, washers, and other components. Remove the hub/rotor, being careful not to drop the outer wheel bearings. As the hub/rotor is pulled forward, the outer wheel bearings will often fall forward.
  8. Once the hub/rotor is removed, remove the retainer bolts securing the rotor and hub together. Inspect the hub and replace if needed."

What is the easiest way to remove the rear hub on a 2005 Ford Explorer?


ok here goes, I will try to remain as simple as possible/

remove the tire

locate the brake caliper, there are 2 slide bolts holding the caliper on (no need to remove them) but they are bolted into the caliper bracket. There is 2 bolts holding the caliper bracket on- remove those 2 bolts (be careful they will be pretty tight) the caliper/bracket assembly will then slide upwards off of the rotor

once you have the caliper and bracket assembly off of the rotor you need to support the caliper assembly ( I usually tie it up with a coat hanger or a piece of copper wire) make sure to tie the caliper up high or far off to the side to give yourself adequate work room.

The rotor will slide off of the hub really easy
On the back of the hub you will locate 3 bolts, usually one at the bottom and 2 on the top corners (picture a triangle)
when you remove those 3 bolts the hub is ready to be removed
given that your vehicle is an 05 I wouldn't think that the hub would be very hard to pull out, but you may need to coach it out a little
if you have to coach it out the best way to do that is to place the tire back onto the hub and put a couple of lug nuts back on. Then wiggle the tire from side to side until the hub comes off.

How to change front hub assembly on 05 mustang


Remove tire/wheel. (5 nuts)
Seperate the brake pads just a little; pry apart with a screw driver. Easier to remove and replace later.
Remove caliper/brake assembly (2 bolts). Do NOT remove brake line.
Remove brake rotor (there may be a retainer clip or two that needs to be removed and discarded.
Remove black center cap (after reading warning on the cap).
Remove large spindle nut.
Slide bearing/hub assembly off the spindle. (If stuck, you may have to tap it with a hammer. It's a straight smooth shaft.

Reassemble in reverse order.
Tighten the nut to the correct torque spec. I don't know what it is, but it's pretty high... 200ft-lbs? The torque is important because it sets the preload on the bearing balls and races. Too low or torque will cause early bearing failure.

How hard is it to change out both front wheel bearings


Not that hard, you will need to remove the brake calipers and rotors. The hardest part is getting the proper size socket to take the axle nut off the spindle if its 4WD. If 2WD they just bolt on from the back of the spindle (4 bolts), and electrical connector for the ABS. Leave the ball joints and tie rods connected.

Replace rear brake pads


Rear disc brake pads offer better performance and are not as affected by moisture like conventional brake shoe style brakes are. Rear disc brakes are similar to front disc brakes. The main difference is that rear disc brake systems must incorporate the emergency brake system. There are two methods widely used for the emergency brake with rear disc systems. The first system is a brake shoe inside the brake disc that is actuated by the emergency brake lever. The second is a screw style actuator inside the brake caliper. When activated the brake pads are forced into the brake disc and held tightly by the emergency brake lever.
READ COMPLETELY BEFORE STARTING
Step 1 - Identify Rear Disc Brake Components

Step 2 - Removing the Rear Brake Caliper Mount Bolts
rear_brake_pads_2.jpg To replace rear brake pads and rotors the rear brake caliper needs to be removed. First loosen the rear brake caliper mount bolts and remove them. Turn counter clockwise.
Step 3 - Lift Rear Brake Caliper from The Caliper Mount
rear_brake_pads_3.jpg After the caliper mount bolts have been removed, gently lift the brake caliper from the caliper mount. Inspect the caliper slides; they should move freely in the caliper mount. Remove rear brake pads and hardware.

Step 4 - Removing Caliper Mount Bolts
rear_brake_pads_4.jpg With a socket wrench or other appropriate removal tool, loosen the rear brake caliper mounting bolts. Remove bolts and lift the caliper mount and remove it from the vehicle. Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole. Tap the rotor gently to release any rust that has accumulated between the rotor and bearing hub. Lift brake rotor from wheel hub holding on tightly, using both hands. You do not want to drop the rotor.

Step 5 - Removing Rear Brake Rotor
rear_brake_rotor.jpg Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole, tap the rotor gently to release any rust that has accumulated between the rotor and bearing hub. Lift brake rotor from wheel hub, hold on using both hands and do not drop.

Step 6 - Install New Brake Rotor
rear_brake_rotor_2.jpg Check the new rotor against the old brake rotor to make sure they are the same size. Clean the mating surface on the wheel hub before the new brake rotor is installed. Reinstall rotor retainer screw.
Step 7 - Reset Rear Brake Caliper
rear_brakes_7.jpg Before new brake pads can be installed, the rear brake caliper must be reset. The reset tool winds the piston back into position so the new brake pads will fit. This style of brake caliper will not compress with a clamp tool; it can only be reset with the proper reset tool.
Step 8 - Reinstall Rear Caliper Mount and Install New Rear Brake Pads
rear_brake_rotor_3.jpg After the caliper has been reset, reinstall caliper mounting bolts and make sure the bolts are tight. Then match up the old brake pads to the new brake pads. They should be exactly the same except, of course; the old ones will be worn out. Check the new brake pads for proper fit and install any brake hardware that is required.
Step 9 - Remount Rear Brake Caliper
rear_brake_rotor_4.jpg Reinstall the brake caliper, align brake pad hardware and reinstall caliper mounting bolts. (Note: align the rear peg of the brake pad to the groove in the caliper piston.) Recheck and retighten all caliper and caliper mount bolts. Bleed brake system to relieve any air in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly. This operation forces the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors. DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE until proper brake pedal operation resumes. When test driving vehicle listen for any unusual noises during the operation of the brakes.
WARNING! Always have the vehicle under inspection on level ground, in park with the emergency brake on. Always wear protective eyewear, gloves and necessary clothing before inspection or work begins. Never crank an engine over when anyone is near the battery or engine. Always have an operational fire extinguisher close by, obey all first aid instructions in the event of an injury. Never stand in front or behind a vehicle when cranked over or running. When engine is cranked over keep hands and clothing away from rotating components. Never move a car without proper brake pedal operation.

How do you change the front disk pads


The pads are mounted to the caliper. The caliper is bolted to the spindle bracket. There is brake hardware which should be replaced with the pads.
Look behind the wheel at the backside of the spindle bracket. The spindle bracket is on the verticle shaft with coils on one end and an A shaped bracket on the other. There are usually 2 bolts that may have normal bolt ends or "Allen" bit fittings.

When you buy the brake hardware you can check for the proper socket for the mounting bolt. You unbolt the caliper, use a rope or wire to suspend it under the frame without disconnecting the brake line.

The pads come off with the hardware. You need to compress the caliper pistons to make the new pads fit. Use a C clamp and an old pad to squeeze the pistons back into the caliper. Remove the Master Cylinder cover so fluid can return.

Then use a bonding chemical like "brake quiet" to mount the rear pad to the caliper piston. Mount outside pad to caliper and then slide caliper over the rotor on the spindle bracket. Lube the slides of the new brake hardware and bolt into place.

You should have the rotors checked for thickness and whether they are warpped before you put on the new pads.

How do you adjust 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee front wheel bearings?


1) Jack up the front of the truck ( or the affected side).
2) Remove the wheel.
3) Remove the brake caliper, pads, and rotor.
4) Remove the axle nut. I use a 36mm socket.
5) Remove the three hub bolts (from the back of the spindle) ea.:
5a) You will need a 1/2 12 point inch ratcheting box wrench and larger
box wrench as I use or a 1/2 inch 12 pt. socket and ratchet with
long handle for rich folks who can afford such luxuries.
5b) Force the bolt to loosen 1/4 turn, then retighten. Spray the threads
with penetrating oil, then loosen as far as it will go (not much) easily.
Now curse about Mopar and rust. Ask a sailor for help if needed. Wire wheel or
5c) Go to 5b) until the bolt is out.
6) Use a sharp chisel and hammer to draw the hub bearing out of the spindle. Try not to use the chisel near the bolt holes.
7) Use a sanding disc remove any burrs from the hub mating surface of
the spindle.
8) Use wheel bearing greasre or moly grease to coat the splines of the
axle, the big hole in the spindle, and the threads of the bolts.
9) Put it all together.
10) If you got lazy and didn't do step #7, get a wheel alignment, then
drive for about 5k miles, repeat steps 1-9, then get a wheel
alignment again.

How do I change the rotors and brakes on my 1999 hyundai tiburon?


Steps to replace front brake rotors and pads:

Safley jack up vehicle.
support vehicle on safety stands
remove front wheels
Remove 2 bolts holding the caliper to the caliper support.
remove caliper
remove old brake pads
remove 2 bolts holding caliper support to the spindle
remove rotor, might need a good whack with a hammer to loosen rust bond, also might have a locking ring on one lug stud
sand any and all rust from wheel hub
apply a liberal coating of antisiezing compound.
replace rotor and one lug nut to hold rotor steady
replace caliper support
replace new brake pads making sure squeel sensors are on inside upper corner, also make sure to apply caliper grease to caliper slides and pad sliding surfaces push caliper piston back.
replace caliper
replace wheels and torque to specs
lower vehicle
pump pedal
road test listening for any noises.

PS. these are generic instructions that are very basic, performing a brake job is a very precise and careful job. remember this syetem is responcible for stoping your vehicle at 65mph. this is not a job to attemp if you do not have a good grasp of mechanical applications.   2. Clean mud and foreign particles from the caliper body assembly and the support. 16-INCH TYPE Refer to 15-inch type. 17-INCH TYPE Refer to 15-inch type.
INSTALLATION

  1. Install the disc rotor.
  2. Install the caliper body and the support to housing. Tightening torque: 80 Nm (8.2 kgf-m, 59 ft. lbs.)
  3. Install the front wheels.
