You must remove the door panel. Then remove the glass from the frame which is held in place at the top of the regiulator by two nuts. Lower the regulator until the nuts become available to work on. After removing the nuts lower the regulator all the way and lift the window glass out sideways to the outside of the door frame top. If you rgulator is riveted in, then you'll have to drill out the rivets. I believe that there are 5 of them. You'll need a special rivet tool to replace them. The regulator will now fit out through the largest hole in the door panel structure. It is a bit or a chinese puzzle but it will come out eventually. If your regulator is electrical, make sure to remove the wire harness first. Thank you, Dana

1988 chevy suburban door panel how do you remove it

I have a 1988 GMC pickup, should be simular,my windows are power windows, the switches can be carfully removed ,(which will have to be done),by depressing clips holding them in carefully tilt them out.
remove wires noting where they go on switch .
remove two screws from arm rest, located underneath arm rest.if you have manual windows there is a wire like clip inserted into a slot in crank handle holding it on to the regulator shaft, you may be able to get it with a screwdriver, but you can get a tool from part store that works much better.
after that gently work around the door pannel with flat screwdriver poping the plastic retainers out of the door, be carefull not to rip them out of the pannel.
I hope this helps!

Window motor

the window will not fall down if you remove the motor. The window is attached to the regulator. The regulator has a neutral spring in it that assists in the up and down movement. Remove the door panel to gain access to the motor. There is usually 2 or 3 bolts that connect the motor to the regulator. Disconnect the wiring harness from motor and remove bolts to remove motor. Hope this helps.
