Question about 2007 Ford Mustang GT California Special Convertible

Open Question

How do I replace my stock shifter knob on a Shelby GT500 with a ball knob without changing the linkage? Is there a way just to replace the shifter knob with a ball knob.  It appears the stock knob may unscrew by loosening the ring right below the knob? Thank you

SOURCE: I'd like to replace the stock shifter knob (or

Usually there is a nut on the bottom of a shift knob that needs to be loosened, then the knob just screws off. Use a wrench, if it's hexagonal, if it's just round or there is no nut it may just screw off. It will be really tight though, be prepared to have to really crank on it to get it loose. The new one should just thread back on. You may need to install a nut on the bottom to adjust the rotation of any pattern or gear shift diagram on the new one.

Dorman make a repair kit for this problem. Go to a parts store( like NAPA) and tell them you problem. They should have the bushing kit you need.

Howdo i remove the shifter knob on my 91rs??

If its a stick with a stock ball head it should just unscrew.

If its a automatic with the leather covered ball head it will
either depending on year have a staple in the front lower part of the ball or you have to remove the release cap on top of
the ball and take out the snap ring then pull it off.

Ok, remove the console so you can look at the shifter, there is a plastic piece that attaches the cable to the shifter knob, this breakes, you can go to Saturn ,but they want almost $200 for both cables (they don't sell the plastic piece) BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS, Napa sells the plastic replacement part at a cost of $20 I am assuming that your car is a manual, part is fairly easy to install,(remove the shifter without removing the cables)
Good luck

you have a linkage problem its either where the shifter is in the floor there is a ball there that wears out and causes this. or its loose at the transmission just pop the hood and visually inspect the transmission and the shifter linkages see if any are not connected. if its connected and tight on the trans then you know you need a new shifter in the car. they are not hard to replace.
