You need to replace the gear in the transmission that drives the sensor.

Speedometer is not working


most of Peugeot cars have a hall-effect sensor on speedometer, so first you have to check if there is 12 volts and 0 volt on the three way connector of the speedometer, if yes take out the sensor located on gearbox and spin the gear at the end of sensor manually, let anybody else put the ignition switch on and observe the needle of speedometer, does it work? if YES, the problem is in the gearbox if NO check with another sensor otherwise you mostly have a problem with instrument panel.

Bad speed sensor on the trans if its an elctronic sensor if its mechanical then it would be a bad speedometer gear or broken cable. Sounds like its electronic so its a bad speed sensor parts a lil spendy but mostly its a pain in the *** to get to

My speedometer keeps going off and on, mostly off.


Hi my name is Tom and I am here to help you.

I am going to guess that you have a standard and not "fly by wire" speedometer. This means you have a speedometer cable. Does you speedometer race to the the top and then bottom out? Sometimes it catches and some times ti does not?

These are all indications of a worn speedometer cable end. Usually the end that goes bad is the end that goes unto the drivers side wheel.

You can replace just the tip, but on a 20 year old vehicle, I would replace the entire cable. The cable inside looses is lubrication and then rusts causing hang ups.

This is all related to the vehicle speed sensor. This sensor sends information to the speedometer, abs, and wing computer. You need to get it replaced and it should fix all the problems.

1996 HONDA THE SPEEDOMETER CUTS ON/OFF IT DOSE NOT HAVE A REGULAR


The 1996 Honda Civic does not have a traditional manual Speedometer cable that would require tightening. The speedometer is electronically controlled by a speed sensor located on the transmission. There is a wire that goes from that sensor to the speedometer in the instrument cluster. Either you have a short in the wire or you may have a bad connector either on the back of the cluster or at the transmission. Scanning your car woudl let you know what is happening, especially if you get a P0501 - which is for the speed sensor.

Tach and speedometer work intermittenly and sometimes trans doesnt shift until 4500 rpm. vw cabrio 1999 automatic.


Good question! My Cabrio's odometer works only when the outside temps are really cold... that means about freezing temp. My VW repair shop guru guy says that the Cabriolet is notorious for this failing. Since the odometer is driven through a small gearbox via the speedo cable, I suspect the odometer "transmission" is mostly kaput. The tach is also mechanically driven so it also may have a semi-functional cable. The only way to really know is to pull the cable and check it for damage. As far as the trans goes have you tested it for codes?
