Question about 1999 Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

We have a 1999 Plymouth Voyager 4 cyl, automatic. Transmission shifts great when cold, but after about 1/2 hour of in town driving it starts to drag and then will not shift again until the vehicle sets for 1/2 hour or so

Might be a smart investment to have filter & fluid changed, as well as make sure cooler for tranny, whether external or in rad is checked.

My 2000 plymouth voyager does not shift reverse. other gears work good

Your transmission need rebuilding. You can buy some TransX and pour it in your transmission. Make sure drive the car to help the TransX to work it way through the transmission then you should get shift reverse. If it does not work then your transmission is badly damage. So you will have to get it rebuild or buy a used one.

1996 Plymouth Voyager starts in 2nd gear and never shifts regardless of how much gas I give it. The RPMs race up, but it never shifts. It is an automatic transmission with a 3.3L engine. Mechanic told me...

The valve body is a part roughly the size of a 8 X 11 piece of paper, only about 4 inches thick.
It is made of aluminum, and is really filled with lots of holes and passageways.
It is up inside your transmission oil pan.
As you drive, transmission oil is supposed to circulate inside this, and change your gears as you drive down the road.
These do fail occasionally, and are expensive to replace, often costing 1,000 to 3,000 to change, as most shops will overhaul your whole transmission in the process.
If you will type in " Ebay motors", and then type in "Plymouth valve body", you can see a picture of one.
Be blessed.

1999 plymuth voyger stoped runing While driving .

check ALL fuses
check fuel in tank. chryslers are famous for running out of gas when gauge reads 1/4 to 3/8 of a tank.
there is no timing to check on a 99 voyager so i will assume the timing belt was checked and that would only applie to 2.4l 4 cyl. or 3.0l V6.

I've had this happen before. It turned out to be the output sensor on the trans.

Shifting problems when hot

These kinds of problems are common on the dodge mini vans, I think you will need to overhaul the trans, it has an internal fluid leak, one other thing to check is the electrical connector to the trans, make sure it is tight and has no corrosion or fluid in it, a poor connector connection can also cause these kinds of issues hot.
