Hello, check out promanuals.net they ship internationally, they have a full factory service manual for the 2007 Dodge Caliber. They are fairly cheap and have fast shipping. Turned out to be an invaluable tool for our shop's Dodge Caliber.

Where is the DRL module located on a 2003 GMC Savana 1500?


There is no DRL module .
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The DRL are a function of the front turn signal lamps. The DRL will operate when the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the gear selector is not in the PARK position, and the headlamp switch is in the OFF position. When the BCM receives these signals it will signal the turn/hazard flasher module to turn on the DRL by grounding the DRL low control signal. The turn/hazard flasher module supplies voltage to the DRL on the right and left DRL/turn supply voltage circuits. If a front turn signal lamp is inoperative the DRL will not operate.
The DRL can be deactivated by turning the headlamp switch to the DRL OFF position while the DRL are operating. The DRL defeat position of the headlamp switch is a momentary ground signal to the BCM to command the DRL function ON or OFF. After each key cycle the BCM will default to the DRL ON function.

2003 Chev Malibu. Radio inop with key in on position, auto systems not working, I.e. daytime running lamps, auto lock and drivers unlock, fuel and temp gauges not working.


Have you had vehicle check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . Check fuse's an relays , find wiring diagrams to see what controls these systems ?
Radio/Battery fuse , fuse G 10 amp located in the right instrument panel fuse box . Do you know where this ?
Fuse Block - Right IP - On the right side of the instrument panel
An there is one on the other end of the instrument panel ,driver side .
Fuse Block - Left IP- On the left side of the instrument panel The fuel an temp . gauges not working is probably the step motors inside instrument cluster . GM had problem with this 03 to 06 .

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The ambient light sensor is a light sensitive transistor that varies its voltage signal to the body control module (BCM) in response to changes to the outside (ambient) light level. When the BCM receives this signal it will either turn on the daytime running lights (DRL) or the headlights. I need clarification on 2003 Chev Malibu DRL problems:


That piece you think is a ceramic DRL module is a resistor , When in DRL mode voltage to the low beam headlamps circuit goes through that resistor dimming the headlamps from low beam to daytime running lamps . It sounds to me like you need a new resistor ,but without doing some electrical testing it could be a lot of things . The DRL relay in the under hood fuse box could have a problem , could be the BCM - body control module , the ambient light sensor etc... Here is how daytime running lamps work .

No low beam. Good high beam. No day lights. What's wrong?


No on the fuse . The LH HDLP and RH HDLP fuse in the fuse block - under hood, supply battery positive voltage to both low and high beam lamps at all times. For manual operation, when the headlamp switch is in the ON position, the headlamp switch supplies ground directly to the headlamps and to the body control module (BCM) on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. The BCM uses this signal to determine if the conditions are present to illuminate the daytime running lamps or park lamps.
The headlamps may be turned on 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the ON position, for manual operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the OFF position activating automatic lamp control (ALC).For ALC operation, the BCM receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under low light conditions the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit energizing the headlamp control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground through the headlamp switch to the headlamps and the BCM on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. When the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit it also grounds the park lamp relay control circuit illuminating the park lamps. The headlamp relay is grounded at G203.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The low beam headlamps operate at reduced intensity when in daytime running lamps (DRL) mode. The ground circuit to the switch side of the DRL relay has a resistor in-line to reduce the intensity of the low beam headlamps for DRL operation. The body control module (BCM) receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under daylight conditions the BCM grounds the DRL relay control circuit energizing the DRL control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground directly to the low beam headlamps and to the BCM on the headlamp low beam signal circuit. The low beam headlamps now illuminate with reduced intensity. The DRL relay is grounded at G203. Any time the headlamps are illuminated the DRL will not illuminate. Manual park lamps do not effect DRL operation.

Where is the DRL relay located?


There is no DRL relay , has a lamp control module .
The daytime running lamps (DRL) activate under the following conditions:
?€¢
The ignition switch is in the RUN position.

The ambient light sensor indicates daylight.


?€¢
The vehicle is not in the PARK position.

When the above conditions are met, the lamp control module (LCM) supplies battery positive voltage (B+) to the low beam headlamps through CKT 589 (GRY), the DRL resistor, and CKT 12 (TAN). The DRL resistor reduces the voltage supplied by the LCM. The low beam headlamps light at a reduced intensity. The DRL disable if the vehicle is placed in the PARK position. When the ambient light sensor indicates darkness, the low beam headlamps automatically switch from a reduced intensity to a regular intensity.

Would the clock spring stop the running lights and low beam head lights from working in a 2003 gmc envoy


Yeah, anything in your steering column can cause problems. I haven't looked at a wiring diagram for your vehicle. Is your headlamp switch and dimmer part of the same switch or different locations?

Usually if I think the problem is in the steering column, I get at the wire harness under the dash where it goes into the steering column, Find proper color wire for what I'm trying to check, voltage or ground on whatever circuit. If headlamp switch is located separately from dimmer, then have to check voltage to and from steering column on proper color wires.

I don't like drl lamps at all, just my opinion. Especially auto lamps that you can't turn off, unless you pull a fuse.

The day time running lights module , ambient light sensor , would be a good guess but that's all it would be .Do you know what these are ? Really don't think there is a short in the multifunction switch . Maybe it's time to take to a qualified repair shop , dealer ! Cadillac or Buick .

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) control module is designed to automatically operate the exterior lights depending on the outside light conditions.
The DRL control module operates in 2 modes:
• The day mode
In the day mode, the DRL control module turns ON the low beam headlamps at a reduced intensity when the DRL ambient light sensor detects daylight under the following conditions:
- The ignition switch is in the RUN position.
- The headlamps are OFF.
- The park brake is OFF.
• The low light mode
In the low light mode, the DRL ambient light sensor detects darkness, turning ON the low beam headlamps to full intensity through CKT 10.
Additionally, the DRL ambient light sensor turns ON the following lamps through CKT 9:
- The park lamps
- The side marker lamps
- The license lamps
- The tail lamps

The daytime running lamps in your 2001 Chevrolet Impala are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM) Here is a description of how the system works:

The ambient light sensor is a light-sensitive transistor that varies its voltage signal to the Body Control Module (BCM) in response to changes in the outside (ambient) light level. When the BCM receives this signal, the BCM turns ON either the DRL or the headlamp relay for auto headlamp operation. Any function or condition that turns ON the headlamps will cancel the DRL operation.
Thirty seconds after you start the ignition with the headlamp switch set in the OFF position, the DRL will perform one of two actions:

Illuminate the high beam headlights at a reduced intensity in daylight conditions
Illuminate the low beam headlights in low light conditions
The DRL/EXT lamps fuse in the top of the engine fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to both the DRL switch contacts and to the DRL relay coil. When the BCM energizes the DRL relay coil, current flows through the right high beam lamp, to the left hand high beam lamp, to the energized DRL relay switch contacts, to ground G101.
The high beam headlamps are now in series, and split the voltage so that the headlamps illuminate at halt intensity. The DRL operates when the ignition switch is in the RUN position, and the parking brake is not set or the transmission is not in park. When these conditions have been met and the ambient light sensor indicates daytime conditions, the DRL will illuminate.

If i were you i wouldn't worry about the second relay too much .because there is only one , the DRL relay !Guessing never fix's automotive electrical problems ! The instrument cluster controls the headlamp systems that include daytime running lamps (DRL). The system allows the headlamps to operate at a reduced intensity when all of the following conditions apply:
• The engine is running.
• The transaxle is not in the PARK position.
• The normal headlamps are not on.
The instrument cluster turns the DRL system on by grounding CKT 592, thereby energizing the DRL relay. This action allows a reduced voltage of 6 volts to flow across the headlamps. If the vehicle has the optional fog lamps, the fog lamp relay will also be energized. The park lamps will turn on and the fog lamps will operate normally. When the headlamp switch is turned to the ON position, the instrument cluster allows normal headlamp operation.
The instrument cluster also has an input from the park brake. If the park brake is in the ON position, the DRL will remain disabled until the park brake is placed in the OFF position. On vehicles with an automatic transaxle, the instrument cluster will disable the DRL until the transaxle has been taken out of the PARK position.
Headlamps
A rocker type switch is located on the left side of the instrument panel (IP). The rocker type switch controls the headlamps. One switch position turns on the following lamps:
• The parking lamps
• The side marker lamps
• The taillamps
• The license plate lamp
• The IP lamps
• The interior lamps
The second switch position turns on the headlamps in addition to all of the above lamps.
An IP lamp dimmer control is provided in order to vary the intensity of the IP lamps. Turn the control past the full bright detent in order to turn on the courtesy lamps.
The under hood lamp is designed to turn on under the following conditions:
• When the hood is raised
• When the parking or headlamp switch is on

You probably have a open circuit in the wiring for the passanger high beam .

Your best bet would be to have a qualified repair shop check it out . May have a broken wire somewhere in the wiring harness .
