Reduce engine power light comes on 2005 buick lacross

The check engine light n or reduced power light comes on when the on-board computer detects a fault in engine driveability or performance, transmission control system or transmission, or the emissions system, and a fault code is set and stored in the computer. Faults that can set the check engine light can range from a vaccuum leak, engine mis-fire, low engine compression, faulty sensor such as O2 sensor or other engine sensor, hydraulic pressure loss in transmission, transmission shift solenoid, open/short in wiring harness, emission evaporative system leak, or one of over a hundred different reasons. The only way to know what set a fault code and turned the check engine light on is to have a diagnostic scanner hooked up to the on-board computer and read it for stored diagnostic fault codes. Many auto parts stores will do this service for free- (like auto zone)check with you local parts stores. If none in your area do, then you will have to take it to a shop and pay to have the computer read for stored fault codes. Without knowing the fault codes numbers, it would be irresponsible to guess as to the cause as there are hundreds of possible causes.

2000gmc truck parking lights will not turn off

there can be a lot of problems, the switch inside the car is malfunctioning, shorted open meaning alway on, the micro switch
shorted out , even thou theres a short, shorted to stay on.
if you have an auto parts store that will do free trilingual code reader, it plugs into the plug underneath the steering wheel, it runs test on the car or trucks computer and gives you a code, look up the code, the auto parts should know what that codes means, if they will not know the code, than come back and the the following information.

or find the fuse for the parking brake and pull it out.

Washed engine down and since then it won't change gear. Engine service lights start coming on.

Water probably got into some part of the electrical system and caused a short. Find someone with a computer code reader (if you can get the car to some store like AutoZone they have card readers available for free) and get the codes from the car's computer module. That will probably pinpoint the area you need to dry out and remove the short from.

Check engine light on

See Figures 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12
On 1990-95 Accord (except V-6) and 1992-95 Prelude, the codes are read from the check engine light after the two-wire service connector has been jumpered. On Accords, the service connector is under the dash on the passenger side. On Preludes, it is located behind the center console. Codes 1 through 9 are indicated by a series of short flashes; two-digit codes use a long flash for the first digit followed by the appropriate number of short flashes. For example, Code 14 would be indicated by 1 long flash followed by 4 short flashes. Codes are separated by a pause between displays. Multiple codes are transmitted in an alternating pattern. For example, a code 3 and 14 would be displayed as 3 short flashes (for Code 3) followed by the separator pause, then 1 long flash and 4 short flashes (for Code 14).

  1. Use a jumper wire to connect the two terminals of the service connector together.
  2. Turn the ignition switch ON ; the check engine light will display any stored codes by rhythmic flashing.

In the event that a code is encountered which is not on the chart, re-count the number of flashes. If the code is truly wrong, it will be necessary to swap the ECU for a known-good unit and recheck. Since this can be expensive, you may wish to bring the car to a reputable repair facility if no other cause of the failure can be found. This may save you the expense of purchasing an unnecessary part.
  1. If no codes are displayed but a driveablity problem exits, testing of the system individual components is necessary to find the problem. If codes are displayed, follow the appropriate troubleshooting chart in this section.

My 1994 pontiac bonneville wont start and i dont know how to pull the codes without a tool, dont know which pins too cross

Jump the two pins in the upper left corner of the connector. Then turn on ignition ( dont crank car ) , codes are delivered in flashes and short and long pauses. First code will be 12 ( flash , short pause 2 flashes , long pause) it will repeat 3 times. Any codes stored will repeat 3 times each after that , the list of stored codes will end with another set of 12's.So a code 38 will be 3 flashes-short pause - 8 flashes.Good luck

2002 ford f450 7.3 diesel runs ruff and has trouble code p1316 any ideas

Possible causes:
Injector(s) or circuit(s)
Open or shorted IDM enable circuit
Open/short in EF circuit
Open/short in FDCS circuit
IDM relay
IDM powering circuits
Check for other codes.
Key on, engine off.
Perform KOEO On-Demand Self Test.

This tells me that the IDM DOES store codes.
Trying to make sense of this. Which test will then give me the codes stored in the IDM? I am pretty sure we did the self test and did not get additional codes

The Check engine light on my 1994 Toyota Camry came on about a month ago and has refused to go off, though it did briefly on a day my mechanic cleaned the battery Terminals and tightened the screws, but it...

Your mechanic should be able to read the codes with a special device he/she hooks up to your car's computer.

Your car has a computer that stores codes when something needs repair or maintenance.

The Check Engine light is on because the computer has a code stored in it.
