Changing my pollen air filter on my 2008 2.5i Impreza sedan

I would like to change my air pollen filter on my Impreza 2008 2.5i sedan. I see it behind my glove compartment and I can partially start to remove it. I can see that it is quite dirty and needs to be replaced. Because of the obstruction of the glove compartment, I can't get it all out. Must I remove the glove compartment to get it out and to be able to replace it with a new one or should I should just pry it and force it out? If I need to pry it out, will I have problems prying the new one in?

If I need to remove the glove compartment, I don't know how to go about it. How can I go about it?

To replace the filter you will need to remove the glovebox. First, detach the dampener on one side. The tricky part is then removing the glovebox. Be gentle, and take it slow... but you will need to do a little squeezing of the sides to release it. Again, take your time as you do not want to damage anything. ONce out, the filter slides out easily. When putting replacement filter, make sure arrow points up. Putting the glovebox back in is easier than removing it... it snaps into place. Don't forget to re-attach the dampener. Hope this helps.
