This is too simple......
Please recall what a GENERATOR does.... when turned by the engine (via the drive belt) the generator charges the battery. That charging strain causes a big strain on the drive belt. If the belt is WET (you see where I am going with this....) then it cannot get traction enough to spin the alternator... so the battery is on its own to power everything... until it dies.

After the 50 or so dollar water pump is replaced (took me about 2 hours), then the dry belt will spin the generator, therefore, run the engine and all of the accessories and still have enough power left to charge the battery.

A leaking water pump is best correctd by replacing it. A leak can occur from the gasket or even the seal around the shaft. In any case, replacement is the only option and it should be done failry soon or face possible water pump failure which can result in overheating of the engine. Avoid any of those sealing products as these can cause more harm than good. As far as the battery... have it tested at an auto parts store to see if there is a problem with it. If the battery turns out to be fine, have your electrical system checked to see if the alternator and/or voltage regulator are operating properly.

I'am replacing water pump 2006 grand prix, all bolts are remove but one. I can't remove it because theres a wheel pully in the way. I think it's the power steering pump help.

You may have to remove the pump...
BUT , maybe not...
The pump pully has holes in it... with the power steering belt loose or off ... turn the pully to see if the holes will allign with the bolt you are trying to remove... if not... then the power steering pump must be removed to gain access to the last bolt..

if you are getting water out then I would drain all the gas/water out. Water is heavier then gas, so once you drain all the gas out I would put known good gas in, you may want to change the filter. First I would get all the bad gas out and put new gas in, take some wd40 spray it in the intake and get it til it will run on it own, once this is done I then would change the filter to be on the safe side. Hope this helped tim

Tyhe engine for its age probably never was flushed out ever. If so the passages are all plugged up restricting the flow of coolant causing it to overheat.
Another reason is a stuck EGR valve. It opens when the engine gets warm. If its stuck shut the engine dies out untill it is cold and it will restart

The opti-spark distributor cap is below the water pump.
Often a leaking water pump will cause a short in the distributor
Due to the amount of time and labor cost to remove the water pump, and that fact that the water pump has to be removed to replace the distributor cap, it is a good idea to replace the distributor cap at the same time the water pump is replaced. The water pump is driven by a pinion shaft with an " O " ring. Be sure to replace the " O " ring too else you may shortly develop an oil leak at that point.
