Question about 2001 Ford F350 Super Duty SuperCab

I have a 2001 ford f350 the flasher relay does not flash I replaced the flasher relay it still doesn't flash. I checked the power and ground for the relay and I have a constant power and ground at the relay, what breaks the ground for the relay coil so that it will flash?

The turn signal lights will light but not flash, the hazard switch will not activate any lights.

  • 5bells Sep 26, 2009

The bulbs all work using the turn signal they just won't flash, but if I use the hasard switch none of the bulbs work even the indicator bulbs in the dash.

I have also checked the turn signal switch and it checks good. Also the wiring from flasher relay to turn signal switch as well.

I have replaced the flasher twice thinking that maybe the first one that I bought was bad.

One reason for the flasher not to flash is blown bulbs. The unit will flash only when the bulbs are working. The higher the wattage of the bulbs the faster it will flash. If a bulb blows on one side then that side will not flash. if both sides have a bulb blown then both sides will not flash. So, check the bulbs on both sides.

    OK.
In that case the flasher unit may be faulty. The bulbs are fine, the battery if fine, the connections are fine. then the only thing left to be blamed is the flasher unit itself.

Their is a flasher unit and a flasher relay. The relay sends the power constantly to the unit and the unit sends intermitant power to the light's it is the flasher unit which has the fault not the relay. Cheer's

. Their are only three things to check and two of them are definitly working for you. The three thing's are: The flasher switch on the steering colum which sends current from the ignition to the relay. The relay then boost's the current and sends to the flasher unit which break's the current intermitntly before it goes to the bulb. The switch is working because it is sending current to the relay. The relay is working because the bulbs light up. The only other possible fault is the flasher unit because the current is going through it to the bulb's without breaking intermitantly. The FLASHER UNIT is not part of either the relay or the switch but a seperate unit usually located near the fusebox. I am not sure where it is located on your vehicle but the wires will be colour coded so check the colour at the bulb and follow them back to the relay and on to the switch. I am not sure what your's looks like but if you buy a replacement (which I think you will need anyway) then you will see what it looks like and help find the one on your vehicle.

The flasher.Have you replaced the flasher? Its the thing that usually makes the click, click noise. Other than that you must be sure all the bulbs that should be flashing are in good shape.
I hope this helps you.

Make sure you replaced the correct flasher. Ther are two one for the turn signals and the other for the hazzard lights. They are usually both in the fuse box. One in the front the other in the back. The turn signal switch is the other thing that could cause a problem. If the lights light and do not flash the flasher is the problem. If they don't light the switch, bulbs, grounds or a fuse can cause this. You need to check if lights light first and go from there.

Please if you will take to my advice it will save you a lot of headache.

Take the car for a scan to reveal what can actually be the cause because a replaced flaser relay should work right.

Good luck.

The internal circuit does the flash function. If neither turn signal or the emergency flasher work, and you have replaced the flasher, then the problem is not the flasher. The flasher should only have power +12 volts when you activate a blinker or emergency flasher, then it gets power. It sounds like a problem in one of the blinker circuits. Try taking a blinker bulb out (one at a time) until the flasher begins working.

It is under dash on drivers side in auxillary relay box. There is a cap/cover on top of box, remove the cap/cover and you will have access to flasher.

It sounds like you have a problem with the combination switch ( or also called turn signal switch ). To get to the flasher pull the heater control switch or the radio out and the flasher is on the left side, it might have a black cover on it

you either have a bad lamp on both left and right sides that will kill the flasher until replaced, but I would bet the flasher itself is bad

you need to replace the flasher relay... it's under the dash board either mounted in the fuse panel (larger then a regular relay) .... or it's just hanging under the dash by inself.

Robert

Please take a moment to rate this solution thanks
