These have a problem with the ignition starter switch, replace it.

Why wood coil have no spark after replacing


first verify that you have 12 volts to coil, with a test light. with ignition on.if the wire going to coil does not have 12 volts. you will not get a spark from coil.

1990 964 wont spark


run the fault codes first as there are a number of reasons for no spark --the last being the coil. There is an ignition module ---position sensors --timing belt --shorts in the cap --bad coil lead to the distributor . The ignition module may be only have 7.5 volts to it from the coil in which case you may have burnt it out with the 12 volt application and you will not get any spark unless the coil is in the circuit as it is a transformer that generates the high voltage necessary for a spark at the plugs.

I have a 1990 f-150 with a 300 straight 6 cylinder. I am getting voltage from battery to coil but no spark coming from it. I have replaced it and distributor also and still no spark. anyone got any ideas?


Replace the coil and ensure that you get the correct coil voltage for the vehicle Coils come in to voltages Straight 12 volt coils that start and run on 12 volts and other that start on 12 volt and run on 7 volts. Check if it needs a resister with it.

1971 chevy truck will just shut of any given time. not getting spark. let it sit few minutes starts right up?


check that you have the correct voltage coil installed. IT sounds as if the coil is overheating and failing. There are 2- 12 volt coils on the market. one is a full 12 coil and the other is a duel voltage coil. The wiring allows to start opn 12 volts and as soon as the engine starts runs on 7 volts through a resistor.If you are running a12 volt use with resistor coil on straight 12 volts system you will have problems as you describe

I have a 1995 dodge van which wont start due to no spark I have tested right at the coils sec. I do have injector pulse but no pulse at ign coils primary there is power at primary of coil at first we...


A test light connected across the coil primary leads should flash on + off when engine cranks(coil sparks when 12v turned OFF due to collapse of magnetic field).If you get pulsed 12 volts,and no spark from the coil,the coil is bad.If you don't get the pulsed 12 volts,trace back to find out why(the PCM turns the coil ground on and off,12 volts comes from switched IGN source)

Hi, I have a Ford F 150 5.0 pick- up truck. I cannot get a spark from the coil at all. What could the problem be?


Check for 12 volts at the coil with the key on. This system uses a hall effect pick-up which is located in the distributor. Along with this pick-up you have either a (TFI) thick film ignition module or a duraspark ignition module. If you have a TFI it will be mounted on the side of the distributor. A duraspark module will be mounted to the drivers side fender well. In most cases, the pick up in the distributor is the root cause. If you have a TFI module, the pick up and module are usually replaced as a pair. Good Luck.

On the coil how many volt is a coil should have on poistiveside whenswitch is on it have 6.2volt when swith on 12 volt when the ecu is disconnect it have 12 it will not start an run it 318


A standard ignition coil normally generate about 15,000 - 25,000 volt depending the requirement to spark the spark plugs. The input volt should be 12 volt but the amperage should run about 400Va.
So now what is the question?

What does the ignition coil do?


the ignition coil changes low voltage from the battery (12 volts) to high voltage (about 50,000 volts) to fire the spark plugs and ignite the fuel in the engine cylinders and drive the piston down

87 ranger wont spark....New coil, and pickup coil


Check to see if the rotor button is turning,that will tell you if the timing belt is broke or not,also,the ignition module tfi module is most likely the problem if the timing belt is not broke.

Just finished 12 volt conversion on 49 V8 flathead. Starter engages but engine won't start. Appears to be getting fuel.


You might not have spark as the 12 volts needs a ballast resistor or the points burn out preytty quick. 8 volts at the coil in run with the points open and 0 with the points clsed and battery voltage at the coil when cranking. coil wire near the intake manifold while cranking should jump at least 2 inches. Closed points should be 0 volts at the neg on the coil. pos and neg should be the same 12 volts with the points open. if not either the coil or the points are bad. The condenser can fail and no spark with all the rest right
