Go to your local Auto Zone and they will show you which one needs replacement by reading a code reader that plugs into your car dignostic port. You then buy the right one from them cheaper than the Dealer and they will lend you the removal tool to take it off.

What does a shaft speed sencer do for a 2000 cirrus

According to, "Symptom: The car won't shift out of 1st gear. The 'Check Engine' light is on.

The speedometer doesn't work for this one. You're only able to go about 30 MPH without going above 4000 RPM.

Likely Cause #1: The Output Shaft Speed Sensor went bad.
Likely Solution #1: Replace the sensor (Part #4800879)."

The good news is that they are relatively cheap if you can install them yourself.

1999 Cirrus battery loses charge when car sets.

Here is a neat trick for that problem (my 1999 Cirrus drain issue could not be solved) Disconnect the negative cable for a minimum of 5 seconds, then reattach it. Doing this before you go to bed insures a charged battery in the morning. It is when the engine is turned over that the battery drain begins again (probably the anti-lock brake motor) Try not to perform this too often, as it will mess with the oxygen sensors over time, which reset their data from the power disconnect. Oxygen sensors in this car gather their needed data from about 40 miles of regular driving, and it is recommended to drive the car often to engage these sensors occasionally. The car might drive slightly rougher after the battery disconnect because these sensors are not fully activated. They determine crucial fuel / oxygen ratios to deliver to the engine and its components...

Replace oxygen sensor

oxygen sensor is located in the exhaust pipe just as it leaves the engine, it monitors the exhaust gas as it exits the engine, look down between the back of engine and the firewall. peek-a-boo ! some cars have (2) one @ the exh. pipe before the CATalitc converter. use a 7/8 " wrench, wd 40 will help also. tight is tight too tight is broke.

Does anyone know how to replace a oxygen sensor ?

Yeah it is on the exhaust you have two of them. Just replace both. You need a O2 sensor socket and will have to pull exhaust down to get to them. You might be able to reach the top one. There is two. I would do both

Either the throttle body is being held open by something or the idle control valve is stuck open. Check where the throttle cable hooks to the throttle body, make sure the cable is not caught on something.
