I own a 2002 Passat GLX V6, transmission tune up/oil change.
I own a 2002 Passat GLX V6, and i have never changed the transmission oil at 101,000 miles. The transmission is working fine. Should i get done a transmission tune up or just an oil change? What would be the cost of a tune up and an oil change?

I had this problem with my passat... the valve cover gasket is slightly leaking. If you take the big plastic piece off the top of the motor (4 plastic fake screws you just have to twist) you can see along the edge of the valve cover if there is oil or not. Mine wasn't bad, but was doing the same thing you describe. Here is a write up on how to do it... really easy (http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/valvecovergasket/) or you can get a Chilton manual which will show you how to do lots of things yourself, usually $30-$40 for the book.
the timing belt or chain...which ever you have... a transmission oil change...every 3,000 miles or 3 months you need an engine oil change...so check that... the spark plugs and wires, change the rotor if it hasn't been changed for a while...and check if the radiator needs flushing... Good Luck!
Jen... I have a 2002 Passat 2.8 V6 4Motion with 125,000 I just changed the Timming Belt, Water Pump, tensioners and thermostat. One dealer was charging me 1500 dollars and the other just 1000... I bought the parts myself thru www.germanautoparts.com and found a mechanic with experience, and he charged me 420 dolares. In total I paid something around 650 for the repair. In the end, my timming belt could last me more than 20 thousand miles more... but either way is a risk. If the belt brakes the repair will go for 4000 dollars to fix the engine. I'm in NE.
The sensors are actually part of the hub/bearing assembly, the entire hub would need replaced.***DO NOT OVER-TORQUE!***
Autozone would probably be the cheapest, however, DO NOT purchase the store brand!
I have a 2003 Passat GLX V6 and i havent been experiencing this issue, however from my experience with VW, the early 2000 models of the passat that have a 1.8T 4 cylinder engine have a major issue with what has been deemed "oil sludge" you have to be careful with this engine oil wise and make sure to get the oil changed every 3,500 - 4,500 miles and make sure you get the full synthetic oils for it and the proper filters :-) the turbo that is on this model heats up the oil to extreme temperatures and if not serviced regularly you will have problems.... i hope this helps! i would have someone check it again for this issue... hopefully you get to it before it becomes costly!
