Question about 2003 Kia Sorento

Open Question

After 20 to 40 min of driving engine will drop 1000 rpms for a bit then it will return to normal after a while even ide it will drop to 400 rpms then after given it rev engine for a few min it will return to norm just replaced plugs ,wires ,and wire boots,diag. read po350 ignition coil primary/secondary malfuntion

I have a 90 Lexus 400 LS, when engine is cold it idles on regula 1500rpm. When it warms up it drops to normal rpm. But if i turn it off for more than thirty minutes, it idles back to 1500 rpms and it takes...

You need to test your Engine Control Unit (ECU) for fault codes.
This could be caused by several things:
- Coolant Temperature Sensor or circuit
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor or circuit
- A/C Signal circuit
- Power Steering Pressure sensor or circuit.
- Neutral Start Switch circuit
- Throttle Position Sensor or circuit
- Idle Control Valve or circuits

You can check fault codes by placing a jumper between terminals E1 and TE1 in the check connector.
(See pictures below) Turn the ignition switch on and count the flashes of the Check Engine light.

If it flashes 2 times every second, this is normal (No codes present). If a fault code is present, the first group of flashes is the first digit in the 2-digit code. There will then be a 1.5 second delay and the second digit will be output. If there is more than 1 code present, there will be a 2.5 second delay, then the nexy code will begin tobe output.
It is recommended that you read the codes (flashes) several times to make sure you are reading them correctly.

I have a 2004 grand prix 3800 engine non turbo. Engine was eratic at cruise with rpms at 1200-2000. rpms would lope 2-300 rpms. I Changed air and fuel filter, and cleaned the throttle body. also checked...

Rpms drop at high speed, mo matter how much gas applied.

Most times they will attach fuel pressure gauge and tape it to windshield or whatever is necessary, then run it down the road to duplicate conditions when you experience your problem. Perhaps fuel pump is getting weak and cannot supply enough fuel to maintain higher speeds etc. Have had ones that had proper pressure when cool, but after running a while, pressure drops right off. It's going to be a process of elimination right now, as no codes coming up, so If you have good spark at all times, then fuel pressure is most logical thing to confirm next. Can you include which engine as well, it may help narrow things down a bit too.

400 E transmission tranny is slipping?

Check the fluid level. Make sure the engine is warm and engine is idling. If the fluid level is fine then try changing the fluid and the transmission filter. *Note: if you take it in don't let them give you any Jazz about metal shavings in the fluid. It's a scam. Metal shavings in the bottom of the pan is normal tranny wear. Tell them to just changed the filter and fluid and be on your way. Hopefully that should correct the problem.

Surge in idle when brakes applied or after driving..

block off vacuum hose to brake booster and see if idle returns to normal if it does you need new brake booster has hole in diaphram internally some times slight hissing noise is evident in cab when pressing brake pedal to section where engine surges or idles high. also check for fuel leaks from hoses if you can smell fuel in engine bay while running and engine warm some leaks only leak while running and hot
