Idle will drop to 0 and increase while engine bucks stalls half the time when driving at moderate to high speed. when starting out 1-3 gears it shifts slightly rough with some hesitation.

Sounds like you need a tuneup. If you can't do it yourself take it to a competent mechanic certified in your vehicle brand and model.

2002 Ford Taurus SES 3.0L Vulcan engine. Engine/transmission vibration/hesitation when driving the highway and the A/C is on. When the A/C is off, smooth ride no issues. Read some on the issue, but I am...

The A/C compressor cycles on and off as you drive, sometimes 4 times/minute. This is normal.
If it is worse than it used to be, maybe the compressor is the issue. How does it feel if you turn off O/D so it does not shift into 4th gear, but stays in 3rd gear.

Truck shifts out of gear at 50 to 60 miles an hour jumps in and out of overdrive at those speeds

check the tps ( throttle position sensor ). a bad tps causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. am not saying this does the trick, but it is a good starting point. good-day !

Hello, my name is Tim. My uncle has a 89' Bronco ii. While cruising on flat, level highway, the transmission kicks in and out of overdrive. Do you have a suggestion? The transmission has been replaced,...

Durango would shift in and out of overdrive while driving at a steady rate. Replaced the throttle position sensor and fixed the problem. here are a few causes for a bad tps. transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. have a good day ! tps is used by computer to monitor throttle position and adjust the speed, fuel and air to match throttle position. if tps is bad it will send wrong info. to computer. hope this helps !! if all else fails clean maf sensor. check tps first.

This is an intermittent problem that only occurs while highway driving. Most of my driving is in town. I can't see any leaks and am worried I may major transmission trouble. I hope you can help!! Thank You

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

During short trips transmission troubles are hardly noticeable. This can be noticed during highway runs. As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you replace the automatic transmission fluid. If the fluid is burnt the transmission tends to shift slow or simply just stuck in gear.

Once the transmission is replaced, a smooth run and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Hesitation, misfire or "bucking" feeling

you most likely have a coil pack going bad.
This can cause an electrical spike and cause computers to reboot just like your home PC in and electrical storm, that is why the transmission acts as if it does not know which gear to go in.
You need to have someone hook up a scan tool and retrieve the trouble codes and see if there is a miss-fire code stored in memory.

Overdrive at highway speeds is jumping in and out of gear

Sounds like your pressure silenoid is going out in the transmission. This controls when the vehicle shifts

97 concorde with 3.5 engine @ 40 to 45 mph it starts bucking .

Computer firmware needs upgrade

Take your car to a Chrysler dealer shop and have them update the transmission program. As your tranny wears it loses it shift point and stutters between 40 - 45 mph looking for the right gear to change to..Had same problem in 94 Concorde and 94 T&C minivan.Reprogramming tranny fixed both cars.
