Cut them out. You get new ones with the kit. These bolts do not come out. I really mean they don't come out. Have fun. I always hate doing these jobs.

Front leaf springs shackles keep folding up and droping the front end

You will need to replace the front leaf springs or have them set and tensioned. This entails a specialist heating and bending the springs to their original shape. While you have the leaf springs out replace the shackle bushes. Depending on your budget now would be the time to buy those Old Man Emu suspension parts you've been eyeing.

I have a 1998 Ford ranger XLT, and when I start from a stop there is a "thunk" sound. Also when the transmission changes gears. "U" Joints?

U-joints would be one thing I would inspect. Check drive-shaft slip yoke for play, ring and pinion for slop, Also trans mount, engine mounts and rear leaf spring and shackle bushings.

Replacing front shackle 1983 jeep cj7

Shackles are pretty straight forward. Remove the existing bolts, change the shackles and reverse the procedure to install. Good idea to change the bushings while you're in there if they are at all questionable. It's best to do this with the CJ in the air, supported on the frame and use a floor jack under the axle to lift/lower the spring in/out of the shackle, one side at a time.

Any tips replacing rear shackles on 1994 ford explorer

Hello. Yes. This is a pretty tough job in that the parts you will have to remove often are so rusted that you need torches to remove them. Also, the job is so much easier on a lift as opposed to crawling under. All of that said I am providing you with a link to a site that will show you all of the equipment and tools you will need and then a step-by-step of how to do this job. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212451
Thanks for choosing fixya! Regards, J.

How to remove old shackles and install new lift shackles in my drive way on a 2005 ford ranger 4x4

You need two jacks and jack stands (for safety while you are working under the truck)--one jack to lift the truck frame and the other to lift the axle to take the load off of the spring. Do only one side at a time.

Torque on spring shackles

My son works for Ford and had a sign-on to get into their online service manual and was able to look it up for me. I knew he could do this when I posted, but he wasn't home at the time and I had my truck on a lift. If interested, the torque specs on the spring shackles are 98lb, both at the frame and spring and 66lb for the shock.
