I do follow instructions well though. Perhaps if I had a video or diagram or something. I was shown where it is well the cover plate anyway and was told about a few bolts I have to take off. Was told I would have to loose the bolts on the motor mounts and raise the motor to get to all the bolts. Also have to loosen something with something called a breaker bar which they said I can use theirs. Then told to put the belt on in the groves and put everything back together.

I would say this job is practically impossible to do correctly by someone with no experience. Charlie

Changing the timing belt is something that usually needs done if it has not been changed and the car has over $100,000 miles. Most Festivas last for a lot longer than that. Mine is going on well over 200,000! All you need is the Festiva shop manual which you can find on eBay for about $10 to $30, if you hunt around and wait for a bargain. The manual fully explains every step and makes it easy if you are mechanically inclined. If you are new to auto repair, make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing check it for you, so that the repair will be safe and last. If you have a large library near you, its possible to find a Chiltons or other brand of repair manual that covers your Festiva timing belt repair procedure.

Ford festiva transmission

You have a manual transmission. The synchronizers are bad. Probably a couple of bad bearings also. Get a manual and buy the parts. Save yourself atleast a $1000 labor from a garage.

remove the large bolt at the center of the crank pully and the bolts on the smaller pully and the warer pump pully put jack under oil pan, remove front upper engine mount and lower the jack this will allow you to remove the timing belt cover and then pry off the pully with a large screw driver

1992 Ford Festiva engine getting fuel, strong spark. Will not start. Ran perfect until it would not start, not even attempting to fire.? Any help ?

Sounds to me like a classic case of a failed or slipped timing belt. If your timing belt is worn, stretched out etc and it slips a few teeth your car will not run, but it will still spark, just at the wrong time. Pick up a timing light for 40 bucks before you go throwing hundreds of dollars into parts you don't need. Check your timing on #1 cylinder v/s the crankshaft pully marks. If you don't know how to do this already I will explain it if you ask me. If you are not getting spark at all, then your belt may be completely broken. So, you have to determine if you get spark, and if it is timed correctly. Buy that timing light, it comes in sooo handy. It will pay for itself very quickly because you wont be pouring money into un-necessary parts.

89 ford festiva l wont go into 5th gear how do i fix it

88 - 89 festiva "L" models came with a 4 speed. Unless it has been swapped with a 5 speed from an 88 - 89 "LX" or a 90 - 93 festiva 4 gears is all you have. Everything you ever wanted to know about your festiva can be found a fordfestiva.com. I've seen 8 festivas with 500,000 miles now. They are bullet proof and big time fun. Easy to work on too. And most owners are really down to earth because we don't care what people think of us. Festivas are also easy and cheap to make very fast. Get on the forum. We will welcome you!
