Check your brake pads for wear.
They may be worn out and need to be replaced.

Hi Joyce

That sound is your brake pads telling you that their useful life is almost over.

You need to get your brake pads replaced. A simple inexpensive procedure. Just don't wait too long or it could get expensive and then it gets to be dangerous.

So please, tomorrow, the first and most important thing you do is going to get those brakes looked at. OK?

Be safe,
Mike

There are brake squealers (metal tabs) that rub on the rotor surface when your brakes are extremely low. This is a warning sign, so get them checked.

Metal to metal knocking sound stops when applying brake.

I just had the same issue. First, check the lug nuts and make sure they aren't loose. If that's not the issue check the brake components. There is a spring that attaches to the caliper to keep pressure on the brake. It's a $7.99 part that was missing that drove us crazy for months! We were sure it was the cv joint! Easy fix!!!

WHEN I STOP ON MY BRAKES, I HEAR A ROARING SOUND...I CAN STOP LIGHT OR FAST...IT JUST STARTED THE SOUND TODAY, WHAT COULD IT BE?..I JUST GOT FOUR NEW TIRES..

Have the brakes inspected immediately to prevent further damage and safety issues. The sound could be several things...A metal to metal grind is the most common, meaning worn out brakes.
They should of done a visual inspection on the brakes when they installed the tires and informed you of any services needed. Good luck, hope this helps.

Why do my brakes grab and make awful grinding sound at every stop even when there isnt any snow on the roads

metal on metal instead of brake pad on metal. the brakes need attention, unrelated to snow.

Metal on metal sound

It could be the low brake pad indicators making the noise, indicating that the pads need to be replaced soon before damage to the rotors occurs. Have your brake's inspected and may have to replace the brake pads and rotors. You can save some money by turning the brake rotors, but there not to expansive and you might as well replace them.

Good luck and thank you for using fixya

Back rear brakes metal to metal sound

I would not doubt that it is from aftermarket parts.

Use silicon grease on the caliper slides and use brake grease on all metal to metal contact parts when installing the new parts.

Also, grind away any rust where the pads sit on the caliper bracket before installing them.

Tranny noise coming to a stop

sounds more like the brakes than anything else. it sounds like youre down to metal on metal where you dont have a brake pad left on that side of the car ...have it checked but i dont think it will be the transmission
