What else will pull a p420 on this car - see below.


Drive at least 100 miles on a new catalytic converter. Also, some aftermarket converter I have tried did not work and I ended up using a real GM converter.

It sounds like your timing is out and that's why it's firing through your converter if you act quick you can avoid needing a new costly converter. First you will need to set up your timing again making sure the timing mark's line up correctly sometimes the timing cog maybe worn that's in high millage models .You may be lucky and you just have to reset the timing if not you may need to replace a worn timing cogs best changing both crankshaft and camshaft.But you should be okay resetting the timing good luck l hope this helps

Catalytic converter needs to reset


Maybe when hell freezes over and not even then. A converter is a hollow pipe with a honey comb inside nothing to reset. If your engine was or is missing or down on power the converter is plugged or melted and needs to be replaced

What was the exact code? The O2 sensor after the Catalytic Converter, or Rear O2 Sensor, could be faulty which would cause the computer to think the Catalytic Converter is not working efficiently. The code can be reset at the auto parts store with the same code reader they used the first time. P0420 is the most commonly thrown OBDII code pertaining to catalytic converter efficiency below threshold. I would replace the O2 sensor after the Catalytic Converter and reset the computer to see if the code comes back. If it comes back you may have a bad catalytic converter, exhaust leak, damaged exhaust pipes, damaged O2 sensor wiring/connectors, plugged catalytic converter, etc.

No the converter will not be affected. the converter acts as a filter to filter out hydrocarbins and other byproducts of combustion. it is not at all controlled by the computer. The reason the computer may need to be refalshed is to reset the short and long term fuel trim. This can also reset the values of the O2 sensors that are usually place on either side of the converter. I am guessing the reason for replacing the converter was it either came apart inside or it was clogged reducing or restricting flow. In any case being that the PCM was not reflashed right away will not damage the converter in any way but it will increase efficiency of the vehicle.

the cd transport mechanism is plastic when it breaks its f..... you will have to replace it,sorry.as far as the window is concerned,put the key in the door and unlock the car holding the key over will lower all windows,then lock the car and hold over the key,the windows will go up.(that resets the windows and SHOULD reset door rollback.)if not its a computer brain reset.

Catalytic converter is bad on 1995 Subaru Legacy L Wagon


dearship parts are high.you can buy a factory catalytic converter or universal converter cheaper at auto parts place.they basic the same parts the.dealership has same catalytic converter.they put their price and labor rate charge an hour your pocket book will be empty.i have used universal catalytic converter.had no problem with it.the only difference is universal converter body a little shorter.but has same lengh as factory.if check engine is coming on you cant turn it off .if computer showing you a code.you could have a misfire causing rich exhaust emission.that can ruin a catalytic converter have it scan.dealership charge you about $130.00 .you can have it scan at advance auto or auto zone.to see what pcm code is.it could be oxygen sensor somethinh minor.

Catalytic Converter is part of your exhaust friend..... You'll probably have to replace the converter entirely
