Got some help at TacomaWorld.com. It was a soldering issue, fixed in 20 minutes and didn't have to replace the whole module.

I am not sure if that module has a back light but if it does you can replace it yourself if you know how.

The best way otherwise is to replace that module.

Good Luck

Sorry to hear your compass and ambient temp display isn't working. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with the '05 to '09 Tacomas. It is possible to temporarily fix it yourself (search google for forums), however the repair doesn't last long due to previous oxidation of the components.

My company repairs these in a manner that precludes the problem from happening again (we use new components, and a heatsink to prevent debonding). Repair includes a one year warranty on our work!

I have a 2007 Tacoma. Recently the compass/temperature display quit. I cannot determine which fuse controls this unit. I'm hoping it's the fuse. If not, how much do repairs/replacements cost. Thanks!

If the overhead lights on the console work then it is not a fuse. I offer a repair service with a lifetime guarantee on all work performed. Much better than what toyota offers :)
Check it out www.autoclockrepair.com, drop us a note we'd be glad to help.

Light has gone out on the console display for compass and temp on the 2006 Toyota Tacoma headliner. Trying to find out which fuse to replace

2005-2009 Toyota Tacoma Overhead Console Fuse test
* does your cruise control work?
* do you brake lights work?
* does your dome light work?
The 10 amp IGI #2 fuse controls several other components including the dome light, cruise control, and
brake lights. If these are working but the compass is dim, intermittent, or dead then the control module
has gone bad.
This is a very common problem with the 05-09 Tacoma. The console is very prone to internal failure. I offer a reasonable repair service with a lifetime guarantee, check it out: www.autoclockrepair.com
There is a bunch of useful info there. Drop me an email if you have questions, thanks!

Compass and temp read out don't work on toyota tacoma

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

You have an unfortunatly common problem, and Toyota has addressed this issue by redesigning the compass/temp module. They have issued a technical service bulletin that adresses this problem.

The new part number is 83290-04030. This part can be purchased at your local Toyota dealer's parts department. If you have an extended service contract; this part may be a covered item.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.

The compass and outside temp on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma quit working. Is there a fuse for this unit and where would I find it?

Are your cruise control, dome, and tail lights also out? If so then it is a fuse. If not then the control unit has gone bad internally. You may be able to get it fixed under your warranty.
If it is not covered by your warranty, check out
www.autoclockrepair.com. We offer a very reasonable repair solution.

The outside temperature gauge in my 2006 Toyota Tacoma no longer works. Can someone tell me where to buy a used one or a refurbish one? Thanks

The 10 amp IGI #2 fuse controls several other components including the dome light, cruise control, and brake lights. If these are working but the compass is dim, intermittent, or dead then the control module has gone bad. You can get a replacement from toyota but I believe it costs $500+.
