Your best solution would be to consult the Owners Manual that came with your truck and if you don't have that, to consult with the GM Dealership who can advise you fully about all the capacities of your vehicle, I.E. Hitch weights, towing capacity, availability of electric brake hook-up, and the "Tow-Haul" mode of your transmission. This tow-haul, when ON, does not let the transmission shift into overdrive gear as easily, in order to protect the transmission components when under a heavier than normal load. With it off, the transmission shifts into the Overdrive ranges much quicker, allowing better fuel mileage and less stress on the components. I would check with the local Chevrolet Dealer, Parts and Service Department, in the absence of the original owners manual for that vehicle. And you can get that from Chevrolet, or maybe even download and print using Adobe from the net.
