Starter replacement in my '95 Chev S-10 4x4

I am trying to replace the starter in my '95 Chev S-10, 4x4, but I can't get it out. Any advice? John

If you have already removed the mounting bolts, try and either take it down through the bottom side ways or try and bring it up through the top side ways.

Why cant it come out? bolts out? wires off? there may be a brace, if so try to take 1 bole out and loosen the other, you may ba able to move it enough out of your way.

hmmm seems like the internals of the starter motor arent doing so well as if the windings inside of it are bad and need work on or the starter being replaced if the same happens with the new starter it could be the start salvaniode bad and need of replacement

Does the engine crank? Kinda confussed why the starter was tested and the distributor replaced. Take it that you have the 2.2 engine in it?

Starter solenoid terminals maybe defective. Try replacing the solenoid.

Need to replace thew starter on a 98 chev silverado, 6.5 litre diesel. where do i locate the starter to romove and replace?


passenger side bottom of motor... Be sure the starter has a front support braket in place.. That's the key to making them last.

Have a 95 chev s10 with 2.2 and standard trans. intermiten won't start when it dosen't start I can hear the starter spining but it dosent engage with the motor,already replaced starter and selenoid and...


Was the starter shimmied to match up with the fly wheel properly so the starter gear fly wheel ring gear don't bind or out to far apart that they don't reach each other. The other problem is that if the starter gear was to far apart, it may have shaved the teeth on the starter gear causing your engine not to turn.

1997 chev. 3/4 ton 454. Starter works,then it doesn't. If I keep trying it,it then makes contact and starts. Its very sparatic


starter selenoid. you can replace the selenoid on the starter. it is what conects the power to the starter motor. when the selenoid gets wore out it takes a couple clicks to get good contact.

Reinstall of Starter 1998 2.4L Chev Cavalier

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the electrical connections from the back of the starter.
  4. Remove the bell-housing cover.
  5. Remove the starter support bracket bolt from the engine block.
  6. Unfasten the starter motor-to-engine bolts, then carefully lower the starter.
  7. Remove the nuts/bolts that hold the starter support bracket to the starter.

To install:
  1. Transfer the starter support bracket to the new starter if the starter is being replaced.
  2. Raise the starter into position and secure the starter using the starter motor-to-engine bolts. Tighten the bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  3. Install the starter support bracket-to-engine bolt to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  4. Install the bell-housing cover.
  5. Install the starter electrical connections on the back of the starter. Tighten the S terminal to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm) and the battery terminal to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  6. Carefully lower the vehicle, then connect the negative battery cable.
