I replaced the starter on a 1994 Mercury Tracer now I am getting a continuous hot feed when the key is in the on position. Need help troubleshooting the problem

Sounds like you may have a bad starter relay, possibly shorted out..what you want to do is locate the relay, under hood on one of the inner fenders, follow the positive battery cable to find it.you should only have power from battery cable connection.pull the small red and black wire off, and test for power on that wire with key on, test while wire is fisconnected.you should only have power there when you try to start the engine. Get back to me after you check this

IS THE BATTERY GROUND ON A 1989 MERCURY SABLE WAGON POS OR NEG?

All cars since the 1950's use a Negative ground, this includes Mecury. Negative is the black cable and the battery is marked NEG (-)

My battery is full charge.but my car still wont turn over without a jump.runs fine while running when you shut off you need another jump.someone said check cyleniod.were is it?

Sounds like you have a weak battery or corroded battery terminals. Make sure the battery terminals are clean & tight. If it still doesn't start, have the battery & starter tested. Hope this helps :)

I need to no if the postive battire cable on a mecrury tracer is all black or black with a yellow strip?

It is usually red, but don't go by the color, look at the battery, it has marks on it, and the positive cables will go to a box with fuses, links, never touches ground metal, the negative always goes to something metal, ground. The positive could have a yellow stripe, if the other one is all black, it cold be the hot one. If the battery is new and you don't know which way it goes because of the wires, you can test the cables with an ohm meter, don't touch the battery, don't even put it in the car, put the meter on ohm, put one end on the cable and touch the other end to bare metal, if it goes to 0, that is ground, if it doesn't move, it is pos. You can test the pos the same way, put one end on the cable and the other in the fuse box, somewhere you can find a hot wire in a dead car, don't touch the ohm meter to any voltage or you can throw it in the garbage can. Kind of hard to explain. If I was there, I could spot in a second. Hope this helps.
