Question about 1999 Ford Ranger SuperCab

1999 ford ranger xlt 4x4 off-road 4.0 ok another problem for you guys, i found out that the switch for the vacuum on the 4 wheel drive was telling the computer that there was a vacuum leak and to turn off the 4 wheel drive so now that i bypassed the switch it will lock the hubs, i know this because i can not turn the cv axles by hand once i engage the vacuum, then i turn the transfercase to 4x4 high and it will lock and i also tried turning the front driveshaft and it also won't turn by hand once i engage the 4 wheel drive so i get in it and hit the gas and the back wheels dig in and the front does nothing so i will do this a few times hiting the gas and get out and check the front driveshaft and the cv axels to be sure it is still all locked and it is. also when i put it in low range it adds the extra torqe but it does the same thing. I had it at the ford dealership and they said i needed a new hub and a reseal because it has a vacuum leak but i didn't do it because it is a lot of money and i had it hooked up like i do now before it went in and it worked fine and now it don't.

Do yourself a favor Use the advice you were given. Spend the money and learn how to do the job yourself. These vehicles only get more technical every year. I have been plugging away since 1963 some 46 years. Buy quality tools and they will last a life time.

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger XLT and nothing happens when the 4 wheel drive knob is turned in hi or low it dosent shift


either switch is bad not getting power or the actuator on the transfer case is faulty or not getting power

Wont disengage out of 4 wheel drive 1998 ford ranger first time its stuck in 4 low we have backed up turned switch numerous times shut it off and restarted


Be sure to put the truck in neutral, while engine is running, while you disengage from 4 wheel drive (low) to 4 wheel drive (high) and then finally to 2 wheel drive. It is critical to shift transmission into neutral when switching out of 4WD Low, as indicated in your owner's manual. Hopefully, this will help to FixYa problem!

How do I use the 4 wheel drive on my Ford Ranger XLT 2.5 TDi 2004


4L only to be used in extreme condtions
N
4H for off road/snow/ice
2H - normal driving

when switching to 4H vehicle must be stationary, as when changing from 4H to 4L
but it is possible to change from 4H back to 2H while in motion.
when 4wd is engaged a lamp will illuminate on dials telling that the hubs are free wheeling, when changing back to 2H you must press corresponding switch to dis-engage this function

Check your operator's manual. Make sure any and all fuses that have anything to do with the affected items are not blown and are working properly. If you can; check for loose fuse connections or wires. Hope this helps. God bless!

Need vacuum diagram for 4-wheel drive


the 4x4 don't use vacuum. the front is auto lock when the transfer is engauged with the button. if the light don't which when pressed into 4hi or 4low. the motor on the transfer case maybe hung up. they have to be used at least 4 times a year not to go bad. the motor is on the back side of the transfer case. best of luck.

99 Ford Ranger xlt 4x4 The 4 wheel drive won't always kick in Looks like the electrics are working but the hubs just won't always kick in.


I had the same problem w/ my 99. If you have auto hubs, they work off a vacuum pump which is located under your air filter box..check to make sure it is working..is that is working it's on to the hubs..the locking hubs are the black caps in the center of each from wheel..they snap on and off..hard to take off without breaking a few tabs..the seal one or both may not be holding the vacuum created by the motor under the airfilter box. if one of the hubs has a vacuum leak neither side will work, it's all or nothing..aside from the electric parts on the dash and side of transmition that's about everything there is to know about 1999 ranger four wheel system.
