The code indicates a lean error code. Can carburater be adjusted to run more rich to turn off check engine light?

Yes, the air butterfly valve is sticking open.
No mechanical adjusting needed:
Best way is to use carburator cleaner spray (AutoZone $5) for the outside, and carbeurator cleaner for the inside (AutoZone $6).
With engine OFF, spray the outside linkage and work to remove grime and free the linkage. Allow to dry.
With engine ON, spray into the carb while working the accelerator arm so as not to allow the engine to die (follow directions on can).
For long-term: use a carb or "Complete fuel system" Treatment (AutoZone $8) in fuel tank when you fill up. Do this every 6 months or so.

NO. it willneed to be checked by a qualified repair shop, there are a lot of reasons it could be lean but a shop will have the tools and knowhow to diagnose your problem. anywhere from fuel pressure, to a vac leak, to a MAF sensor problem. but guessing at this would not help, and when guessing I dont want you to spend any money you dont need to on unnecessary parts.

Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch Sensor Indicates Lean Bank 1
In simple terms, it means the engine computer is not "seeing" the O2 sensor switch from rich to lean like it should be doing.
When the O2 sensor switches to lean the computer makes the injectors open more to let in more fuel, until the sensor switches to rich.

Code 1150 on a 1997 ford f 150 with a 4.2 motor


I will try to paste an article for you. Several sources indicate this is a Bank 2 O2 sensor problem and that it is failing to switch and adjust for the fuel mix. But as you can see, many defects can lead up to this O2 sensor Code 1150.

I would try to use a spray bottle of water and go around the Intake manifold and spray the water while the engine is running. An intake leak will draw water into the engine and change RPM.

If no success then try changing the O2 bank 2 sensor. You may need to wipe the computer and clear the Code. H40 DTCs P1131, P1132, P1151 AND P1152: UPSTREAM HO2S NOT SWITCHING. DTC P1130: FUEL SYSTEMicon1.png NOT SWITCHING AT FUELicon1.png TRIM (RICH OR LEAN)
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P1131 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) and P1151 bank 2 indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting rich for an overly lean condition. The HO2S voltage is less than 0.45 volt. DTCs P1132 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) and P1152 bank 2 indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting lean for an overly rich condition. The HO2S voltage is greater than 0.45 volt.
DTC P1130 and P1150 indicate the fuel control system has reached maximum compensation for a lean or rich condition and the HO2S is not switching.

P1151 - Lack Of HO2S21 Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean. If the engine is running smooth then it is P1151 Description A Heated Exhaust Oxygen (HO2S) sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time. possible the Oxygen sensor is defective.

How do I know if the engine is running rich or running lean?


A 2002 (any car) should not be doing any of those things unless the check engine light is on. If that's the case then scan or have the car scanned for codes. If there are codes than they will give an indication as to what components to check. Otherwise the mixture of air/fuel is constantly monitored by the PCM (Power-train Control Module), which through data feedback from various sensors (such as Oxygen, Mass Air, Intake Air temp., Coolant Temp, etc . . .) constantly adjusts for the optimum air to fuel ratio by varying the injector pulse. Therefore no adjustment is necessary as this is all taken care of via a computer. Hope this helps

Is refer at O2 sensor, Code 51 - Oxygen sensor output indicates lean too long

Power loss light: Off
Limp-in mode: Engine allowed to run rich, but prevented from running lean

Possible Causes
Bad oxygen sensor - Replace the sensor which is located on the turbo housing near the down pipe (for turbo) or on the down pipe near the exhaust manifold.

Bad connection or wiring - Check the wiring and connections between the sensor and the logic module (or SMEC). Clean and regrease any corroded connectors with dielectric grease and repair any shorts. Look for melted wire insulation near the exhaust manifold. A shorted connection to ground or any positive source will cause this fault code.

Low fuel rail pressure - See the Diagnosing Your Fuel System page.

Diagnostic Method - Trigger Parameters
- In closed-loop
- Sensor output indicates lean for more than 715 seconds (11 minutes, 55 seconds)

Results If Component Fails
A fault code 51 is stored, the circuit stays in closed-loop, and the logic module will still monitor the oxygen sensor signal. If the condition persists for four times what it took to set the code, the logic module will allow the engine to run rich, but prevent it from running lean.

I have a 1998 ford contour that has codes p1130 and p1131 on it what could be the problem. the check engine light is on

WHY IS THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON IN MY SATURN??


The Check Engine light will light when the ECU stores a trouble code.
Counting the Flashes
To retrieve trouble codes, turn the ignition key to the "on" position with the engine OFF.
The Check engine light will flash many short blinks. The total number of blinks equals the code number. For example, flash,pause, flash,flash = code 12.If more than one code is stored, the Check engine light will flash the codes in sequence (lowest to highest) with a pause between each code. The codes will repeat until the key is turned to the OFF position.
