THE FAN DOES NOT COME ON WHEN THE GAUGES ARE PEGGED, BUT IF YOU TURN THE A/C ON, THE FAN COMES ON AND THE TEMPERATURE DROPS TO NORMAL. Sounds like everything is working right but the computer is not turning the fan on. i would say the temp switch for the fan. it sends a signal to the computer to turn it on. it is very cheap and is the most common and likely problem.

good luck and please ask any more question you have

sounds like a regulator malfunction to me..need to connect a battery/alternator tester to the system and see if the regulator is bad.. this will cause full charge of the alternator to enter the system.. this uses the battery as a regulator and will cause overheating of wires and relays..if the alternator can be removed and tested separately(most can), do this and see if this is the case..replace if bad..good luck..

2000 Ford Ranger. I have been having problems with my truck overheating. I changed the Thermostat but the truck still overheated when driving home yesterday.

If it has an electric fan a would replace the coolant temperature sensor. If it a mechanical fan i would replace the clutch on the fan.

Could be a stuck or worn out thermistat, also listen to the fans on the truck.. sometimes if they are electric they burn out or the sensor is burnt out
