Instrument Panel Shuts Off

The instrument panel shut completely off as if the car was not turned on. After turning the car off and restarting it, the panel came completely back on. Then the next day the gas guage rapidily went from half full to competely. Filled the tank up and it proved the tank was half full in the first place. Now the fuel guage shows it is full.

Pull the cluster out and check for soft set coupler check all couplers on the fuse panel one sounds to be soft set or you have a bad ground best to take to a dealer but i work for honda builing civics and it is very comon to find a soft set coupler when we do our checks on line so maybe one has slipped through but it is one of those 2 things i am 99% sure

How do I remove dashboard to get to instrument panel to replace bulbs?

You will need a cross point screw driver

  • 1 Remove the two screws on the underside of the top of the trim panel surrounding the dash and instrument panel.
  • 2 Pull the trim piece off the dash.
  • 3 Remove the four screws that hold the instrument panel in the dashboard using a cross point screwdriver.
  • 4 Slide the dashboard instrument panel forward and disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the dashboard.
  • 5 Turn the instrument panel over.
  • 6 Turn the base of the dashboard light bulb counterclockwise to unlock it from the instrument panel and pull it out of the panel to remove it.
  • 7 Insert a new light bulb into the back of the panel, and turn the bulb clockwise to lock it into the panel.
  • 8 Plug the electrical connector back into the instrument panel and slide the panel back into the dashboard.
  • 9 Secure the panel with the factory mounting screws and replace the trim and trim-mounting screws using a screwdriver.

Head Lights go dim, instrument panel goes dim when I turn on my Headlights

Does it go completely black or just dim? Most displays dim when you turn the lights on to make the display darker so its not too bright. GPS and other displays do this. Do you have any problems with any other of the car's electronics?
