Question about 2000 Honda Accord

2 Answers

I had my oil changed today at Jiffy Lube, and they recommend that my sterring wheel fluid needed to be changed on my 2009 honda accord. Is this something I should do, and if so can I do it?They also showed me an air filter that they said needed to be changed as it was affecting my fuel performance. I thought it looked like the inside air filter?? Long and wide, had some bugs in it?? What do you think?

If the p/steering fluid is discolored or dirty.Yes replace it.After 50 000 miles or two years it should be done anyway. The air filter if clogged will affect economy. The bugs are often found on the face of filters. It should not be a big cost to have these done. You can replace the filter easily but the fluid needs to be sucked out and the system bled properly.Hope this helps

Transmission fluid is brown

hi, this is a clear sign that it needs replacing, over time oil changes color so when it changes this is usually a good sign to get it drained and filled with new oil

if you dont then this could cause you problems in the long term as the oil wont lube as well as it should do and this can then cause over heating and damage to parts due to friction

get the oil changed and you should have no problems

I took my 1996 BMW Z3 4cyl to Jiffy lube for an oil change.. I requested Pennzoil Ultra Syn oil.. They used 5W20 oil? I called them to ask why, and they said it was all they had, but according to their...

I agree with the previous expert.

Get the oil changed. Use what the manufacturer recommends. Your engine is designed for a specific viscosity, and you need to adhere to the manufacturer's specifications. Nowadays, oil does much more than 'lubricate the engine'. The oil moves the variable valve timing, and a host of other tasks.

Viscosity is important.

Too thin, too much volume. Too heavy, to little volume.

...Will it be OK? I would think so, but, you really need to get the right oil in it, Make Jiffy Lube change it for free. They screwed up. Not you.

Extension shock deteched

Take it to your local Honda Dealer, sounds like your missing a little retainer clip for the shock. They may have to order it next day.

I would submit any bill you get back to the Jiffy Lube Corp Office for reinbursement.

In the future, I recomend staying away from Jiffy/Express/Quick Lube places, google search, there are just to many cases of them out right ripping people off. From putting in the wrong oils to hard selling improper services.

Do not allow any of these places to replace your Honda's transmission Fluid with GM Dexron III or "Flushthe Transmission". This can void your warranty and damage your transmission. Once again, Google or search MSN for "flushing Honda Transmissions".

Honda's use ATF-Z1, not General Motors Dexron III. And your Odyssey should have 05w20 engine oil, not 05w30 or something else. Check your Owners Manual for more details.

I am not saying you have to take your Honda to a Honda Dealer for all your services, though any many cases it is my first choice. Look for a ASE Certified Master Tech run shop and one that works only on Honda/Acura's. They should have the right tools, right parts and the knowledge to use them correctly.

Good Luck.
