It is located in the back of the motor inside the distributor under the cap and rotor and then the cover plate under the rotor. it is the one that has the three wire plug going into the side of the distributor.

SOURCE: 99 suburban 5.7 1500 location of camshaft sensor

If it has a distributor (most chevy v8's did in 99) it is located within the ignition module, the pickup coil is there as well as a reluctor or (star) wheel that signals spark and injector pulse

It's in the distributor. There is 2 connectors on the outside of the distributor to it. Make sure they are both connected before replacing parts. The gear on the distributor wears out too.

The primary intent of this code is to detect slipped camshaft timing. Have you checked the camshaft timing? Your symptoms indicate you are a tooth off.

The camshaft sensor is in the distributor, beneath the ignition rotor. The crankshaft sensor is inserted into the passenger side bottom of the timing chain cover. I personally have not seen either of these compnoents cause this type of problem. You probably should take this vehicle to a shop and have them do a diagnostic on it.

If you still have a cap rotor and ignition wires, it's inside the distributor. If not, it is the part where the distributor used to be (center rear of the engine behind the intake manifold)
