Oh boy are you in for a long day on this task,I did mine in just under 8 hrs on an 4.0l what engine do you have if it's the 4.0 than the breather box and tube has to come off there are bolts that hold radiator in that go through the grill through the support to radiator you just about have to pull radiator both hoses, shroud but not the transmission lines just lift rad up high enough to get to fan bolts but good luck I was ready to burn jeep down after that one so I let the younger mech do those now.

My 2004 Jeep grand cherokee loredo is overheating while at idle?

it sounds like the problem is with your fan not running. I would try and see if you have power at the fan and test the fan to see if it isn't bad.

Which cooling fan is the primary on a 99 jeep grand cherokee ???

The main cooling fan on this 1999 jeep cherokee, the main fan all depends.

These jeeps come with diffrent fan set ups. Here are a few, the first may be a fan driven off the motor by a fan belt and a another fan which is electric. the primary fan used for cooling is the fan that runs off the engine with a belt. the other electric fan is more the air conditioning system, this fan is used for cooling the condensor mainly. the engine driven fan is for the cooling system.

Another system fan set-up on these jeeps would be the motor driven fan by belt with another electric fan in front off it, the diffrence between the first and this one is that the first fan system is side by side and this one is set-up one in front of the other but the concept is the same, the fan driven by the engine is mainly for the cooling of the engine coolant and the electric fan is for air conditioning cooling.

In both set-ups the electric fans also help the cooling system but are mainly used for the help in cooling when the a/c is turnned on, the a/c condensor builds up heat the same as the radiator does, one fan is unable to cool both the radiator and the condensor, this is why some cars have two fans.

Good day, hope this is helpful,

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cheokee and it is overheating when I idol and when I idol the heater is not blowing cold air. It will blow warm air while I am driving down the road. What do you think could be...

Check the cooling fan motor and of course the fluid level. If the temp is changing thru the heater it could just be low on coolant , leaking from ? Two wheel drive have an elecrtic cooling fan only, make sure its spinning up when temp is 3/4. If not its probably the fan motor. Can be checked with a test light .

Electric fan wont kick in jeep over heats replaced thermostat and two sender units

Sounds like your cooling fan relay is bad the jeep grand cherokees are known for this, first thing i would do is unplug the radiator cooling fan and run 2 jumper wires direct from the battery to the fan connector if the fan kicks on your fan motor is good and the relay is bad, if the fan doesnt kick on replace the fan motor with a new unit, the cooling fan relay on your particular model jeep is located under the passenger headlight and requires you remove the front bumper to replace it, however some people cut a small hole under the headlight to access the relay the faster way but if your not to keen on cutting holes in your car remove the bumper and replace the relay if the fan checks out and you wont be overheating anymore...

Car overheated and antifreze was boiling and spewing over until engine cooled. 2004 jeep liberty 2wd. Thanks!

Need to know what caused the overheating, possible broken serpentine belt, thermostat, water pump, radiator, fan clutch, cooling fan motor. After motor has cooled down fill radiator with water till full, look make sure serpentine belt not broke, start engine run about 5 minutes, turn off, let sit 3 minutes, start engine look at temperture gauge is it over half way of gauge, Do you have a fan blade driven by water pump or electric fans?

Likely your fan relay internal contacts have burned closed. Relay should be either in the power distribution center or in front of the battery.

My a/c will blow hot air and then the car will start to over heat

I'm sorry but I'm not sure what exactly the issue is. You stated the Jeep overheated, correct? Then you stated that you had previously taken the Jeep in for work on the a/c. Was this previous to the overheating? And which fan motor are you referring to? The interior vent fan motor or the cooling fan?
The cooling fan has nothing to do with the a/c. It may help increase it's efficiency but the a/c will work fine with out the cooling fan. If you are having trouble with the engine cooling fan after the work you need to return there and make them fix it. You must also remember that the coolant fan works intermittently when the temp reaches the cut-in an cut-out setting. As far as the plug on the fan itself it is a simple connector and easy to replace.

The thing that is of most concern should be, how is the vehicle running since it overheated?
The liberty has twin overhead cam aluminum heads. These are susceptible to warping caused by overheating. If you are need to constantly check and fill the radiator due to overheating you may have other issues other then the Coolant fan.

Please repost with what motor was repaired (a/c vent or cooling fan).
Also did you notice a sweet smell to the smoke when the Jeep overheated?
