SOURCE: 2002 chevy cavalier battery shows

Verify that BOTH your positive battery cable AND your negative battery cable have good clean connections at both ends. Make sure that the part where the negative battery cable bolts too on the body of the car is free of rust and a good solid connection. After confirming good connections, then verify that the alternator is charging at between 13.5 and 14 volts when the engine rpm is raised to near 2000 rpm. Check that the battery voltage stays above 10 volts when the starter is cranking and turning the engine over. Once all these things are met, then the system is in good condition. If the battery voltage is too low after a sufficient amount of recharge time, then the battery is probably bad. If the Alternator voltage is too low once you verify a good battery, then the alternator is probably bad.

2005 Saturn vue wants to fire but won't. Battery reads 12.2.volts prior to starting and drops to 9 volts when trying to start. replaced cap and it started on first try. it had a rough idle before...

Unfortunately the answers you have given for replacing a cap is too vague. Is it a gas cap, radiator cap, air conditioning service port cap.... Look the battery needs charged that is why the battery drops to 9 volts, a good charged battery should drop to 10 volts. Check your battery terminals or cables for corrosion. Do a voltage drop tests on both positive and ground cables. As far as not starting any more...do you mean not cranking as in no starter eengagement or cranking but not running? If it is not running listen to hear in the first 10 seconds to the fuel pump relay if it engages or listen for fuel pump...is the car getting spark?

The volt gauge reads 14 volts when the truck is running (2004 Chevy 2500 HD, 6 Liter) after I shut it off Voltage gauge reads 9 volts as low as the gauge goes. The starter acts like it is not getting...

14 volts is close (14.5-14.8 volts is required
and 9 when shut down indicates a bad battery
have it load tested and then have the alternator tested for rectifier pack operation
there should be 14.5 volts DC at the battery when running or it is not charging the battery
if you have 14 volts AC replace the alternator with a serviceable unit

Car wont start unless boosted battery shows 12 volts with meter key off and 9 volt when tried to start

After you get it started check to see what the output of your alternator is it should be 14.4 volts if this is the reading your battery may be bad you do need a certain amount of not only voltage to start but also amps from the battery

Replaced alternator and battery in 2002 Chevy Tahoe. Battery voltage remains between 9 and 14 (leaning more towards 9 and at times falling completely until trucks shuts off)

Hello,
When you say battery voltage how are you testing it? Are you looking at a gauge on the dash? Or are you physically testing it with a multi meter? If the truck is dying and you recently replaced the alternator and battery I would first suggest you to check all them connections again real good. Snug them all up. Check for corrosion and clean as needed. Did you replace the battery and alternator with new/re-manufactured battery and alternator? The alternator needs to put out at least 13.6 volts to charge your 12 volt battery or the battery will not maintain a charge. However the alternator runs the vehicle once it is started. The battery is used only to start the car and then the alternator runs it. So if your vehicle starts and runs and then dies you may have a bad alternator. Check your connections first and then test the alternator with a multi meter. Anything less than 13.6 volt will not suffice. 14+ volts would be the hopeful output of a good alternator.
regards, Tony

Truck won't start , doesn't make any clicking noise from starter, battery reads between 9-10 volts. what could be the problem? it was running fine before I. shut it off.

Your battery should be reading about 12 to 12.5 volts 9-10volts is way to low to start your vehicle. I would suggest you take the battery to your local auto parts store and have it load tested. They usually do it for free you may have some shorted cells in your battery.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave me some positive feedback.

How to check the alternator to see if it's charging on 2003 yukon the volt meter dose not move off of 9 volts

They have expensive tools and equipment to test alternators but you can get by with a simple digital volt meter. With the volt meter on DC voltage attach each lead to the corresponding terminals on the battery. With the engine running and all the electrical loads on (such as the head lights, radio, defrost, wipers, radio etc). the voltage reading should be between 13 and 14 volts. If you actually only have 9 volts then the alternator isn't charging and you'll have to look in to that more. The truck wouldn't be able to start or run very well with only 9 volts so i'd be willing to bet the gauge is bad or possibly a wiring fault.

2002 Taurus starts & then dies. After an hour, it is OK for weeks

put a volt meter on the battery when you get the problem to occur, I have run into intermittent problems and found that when cranking the battery voltage drops below 9 volts and when the voltage drops below 9 the pcm powertrain control module does not know what to do and will cause the problem you are talking about, if it drops below 9 volts check and clean power and ground connections and have you battery tested, your local autozone will test it for free, and most likely your battery is going bad. and auto zone installs batteries for free also.
