Oil pan


Hi Gerti ,
It is very easy , First lift the vehicle through jack or hydraulic lift and drain the engine oil in a pan and arrange a new engine oil filter and oil as it is better to replace( u can use the same if it is not very old). U can drain the oil by removing the drain plug ( keep it for around 1 hour so that oil from the gallerias also drain out).
After 1 hour remove the oil pan by removing all the bolts from engine and replace with the new one.
Top up the engine oil by removing the dip stick and your car must be fine.

coolant in oil is BLOWN HEAD GASKET at the very least,dont keep driving it you may COOK the engine then your into serious repair costs

Replace radiator with a new one remove pan and replace filter. refil and run then drain tranny and refil again . There will be water contaminant in the torque converter so it may be best to have a transmission expert change the auto oil when the engine is running. It may cost extra for the oil used but it will be cheaper in the long run

Found oil in my coolent expansion tank


Generally speaking, if you have engine oil in the cooling system, you have a leak somewhere in the engine, which could be a head gasket.
Is there any sign of coolant in the engine oil ?

Check for oil in the coolent and coolent in the oil, both of these are usually caused by head gasket failare but not always. If these seem ok change the fuel filters, remember there are 3 on these trucks, check the air filter isnt blocked if your not sure leave it out as there expensive and you dont want to throw money away if its not needed yet. Once your sure you have fixed the truck re-fit or replace the air filter. Check the fuel tank for contaminated fuel and if possable check fuel pick up in tank isnt blocked, also try with fuel tank cap removed as the breather may be blocked.

What is the best oil to use for a 1.8 gti 2004


Any good quality brand synthetic . 5W20..5W30 or similar.

Shell Rotella 5W40 is about as good as it gets. Always use a OE VW oil filter....buy 4 or 6 and keep the others for next time along with oil drain washers.

VW has recommendations in the handbook if you still have it.

If this is the turbo engine....Engine takes 3.7 quarts, so you need to change it often as you can afford...about every 5000 to 7000 miles.

99 cadillac deville engine overheating an loosing coolent couple times a day.Replaced thermostat, water pump ok, cooling fans on at 217deg.,radiator pressure tested an holding pressure.engine still keeps...


Check to see if you have flow through the entire radiator.If part of the radiator core is cool to the touch when the engine is at operating temp, this indicates restricted radiator flow. If the entire radiator core is not allowing water to flow through, cooling will not be at all efficient. Also a good idea would be to purchase a block tester. available at napa and other reputable parts houses for around thirty dollars. You remove a small amount of coolant, and put the tool in the radiator, or pressure tank opening. If there are any combustable gasses present, i'e' exhaust, this would indicate a head gasket breech, (or maybe worse) and would indicate that it's time to stop looking for a simple problems, and get proffessional help. Overfilled engine oil on a 2003 porsche 911 turbo.now smoke comes out of exhaust--HEAVY Smoke.I drained engine oil again(along with the turbo)put in 9.25 qts of oil,still having heavy smoke.


The oil was overfilled this could cause a large amount of oil to enter the exaust and possibly the intake depending on crank case ventilation conditions. If you are positive engine oil levels are adjusted perfectly(warm engine check level running for dry sump oil level ect.). Time is needed to burn off oil residue in exhaust system and intake. Warm up engine low rpm no load, drive vehicle slow with little boost over 5 mins slowly raise rpms for another 5 mins keep driving smoke will burn off while making other drivers mad. sorry just smile and wave.
The engine oil on this vehicle should only be changed by an experinced tech.

Oil in overflow , and its has a lot of pressure in it as well?


it sounds like a bad head gasket if your getting cylinder pressure in the
cooling system + oil, odd's are there is coolent in the oil.
I would not drive the car to avoid doing any more damage also if it's going to be a while before you have it fixed drain the oil + all coolent
put in fresh oil + filter leave coolent drained run the engine for a minute
to circulate the oil this should minimize any rust from sitting.

Check for coolant in the oil. The oil will look like chocolate milk. After it's sat overnight you can also try loosening your oil drain plug until fluid comes out. See if it looks like chocolate milk or is just straight coolant. Check your spark plugs. Pull them out of the cylinder head and check for white corrosion or actual coolant in chambers or threads. You can also do a block test (rent the block tester at Autozone for $25.00- return when you're done and you get the $25.00 back) the block test fluid is $8.99. Follow the directions and if your test fluid turns green or yellow you have combustion/emission gases in the coolant. This can be caused by a cracked block/ cylinder head/ blown head gasket. You can also disconnect one head's spark plugs and test that cylinder then the other to see if only one is causing the problem. Hope this helps. If you're losing coolant, it's probably not your water pump. A lot of times if a head gasket fails, the head (usually made from Aluminum) will crack or warp.
