Question about 1993 Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

1993 lumina 3.1 dies going down the road, but starts again

Dies going down the road. pull over, and it will start and idle, but when you give it gas, it dies. sometimes you can pump the gas pedal and it will accelerate. other times, you have to let it sit fir a couple of hours. Checked fuel pressure while it was acting up, and it was a little over 40 psi. when I pumped the gas pedal while in park, it would try to die, and psi went up a couple of pounds, like injectors were shut off maybe. Any ideas?

Did you check the pressure with the vacuum hose to the regulator (if applicable) disconnected? Try driving the veh with the press gauge taped to the windshield. Got to replace the gas filter every three years or 30,000 miles or they clog up. The fuel pump armature may be worn and binding up. (new pump) It may just work okey but no volume. Now we go to the TPS. Throttle Position Sensor. Need a digital volt meter or scope to look at it. Worn or out of adjustment. Don't have the car here so it's not easy assume anything. You need too know the systems on a brand of veh and follow a flow chart of likely causes you develop over the years and keep notes for the next vehicle challange.

Why does my 93 Honda Accord run fine and then dies going down the road and will start again and die again?

There is a black fuel relay way up under the top left driver side dash that breaks its main wire solder connections on the circuit board under over-heat conditions. Resolder that relay. Starting fluid will show that you have lost fuel delivery under no start conditions. You can use the breather hose from the valve cover for this test.

Car dies going down the road

First thing i would check would be the fuel filter. Sometimes, when they first start to give problems, there is enough gas to keep them idling or driving around town, but when you get on the highway they starve for fuel.
