Its time consuming to get to it; it can take 2-5 hours. once you get to it its a peaces of cake. taking the dash apart is every mechanic nightmare, I rather work on the engine any day. the hard parts is locating all the screws and bolts that hold the dash in place, I would get a zip lock bag and labels what screw goes where, making sure everything fit back together tightly.

I don't know of any that are easy anymore...best ones used to be the old Lincolns that used to come out in about fifteen minutes. today you need to take most of the dash apart. You can get a better idea of what the job entails by getting a haynes or chiltons manual and reviewing it to see if its something you want to get into.

If the heater core isn't leaking it doesn't likely need changing. It sounds like you could have a problem with the heater control valve - a valve in one of the heater hoses that controls flow through the hose. If you smell coolant and see moisture on your windshield (inside) or have coolant leaking onto the floor - you might need the heater core replaced.

Heaterblower not working after changing heater core 1998 S 10

Have you checked the fuse? The blower fan has a resistor that controls the speed in the air box by the passengers feet. When the heater core was replaced, something could have happened to the connection or wiring. Not sure why the radio would be affected by the same thing, could be a coincidence or something dislodged under the dash. Start at the fuse and go from there.

The 1998 durango heater works but wont heat! what is wrong with it?

Could be a heater core plugged or improper adjustment on the heat exchanger cable. Turn your heater on high and go under the hood and feel the two hoses on the passenger side coming out of the firewall. See if both hoses are hot when the engine is at operating temperature. If they are both hot then there is probably a problem with the cable adjustment or heat exchanger door not functioning right. If only one hose it hot then your heater core is plugged which means changing the heater core or you can take it to a radiator repair facility and they can hook up to your vehicle and can sometimes clean your heater core. We have had success at doing a bunch of plugged heater cores this way. Worked in most all cases.
