Question about Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

I dont have a problem anymore but want to share what I did to fix my problem and hope can save others the hell I went through. My car kept stalling out and leaving me stranded.I had 2 fuel pumps replaced, then a major car dealer in buffalo said was a bad fuel injector, cost me 1100 bucks.then that dident work and did not get money back cause said that was my problem as well as my gank had sediment in it and out of good will they said will clean my tank as good will. Well that worked for 2 weeks and same problem.I then had a buddy who owned a shop and looked at my car, said was a hole in neck of where i fill up car.He said thats the problem and said needed a new gas tank and have neck replaced.he said would give me every penny back if dont work. well another 550 bucks later and 7 months later car runs like a charm.that was my problem.A multi million dollar chain of dealrships in buffalo area(west herr)couldent fix and screwed me over and a buddy with a one man operation garage fiqured it out. Look to see if anyway getting dirt or water into your gas tank if your car keeps stalling out and no matter what you do to fix it.sorry to rant but i went through hell and want others not to get screwed like I did.

no symotoms.? how many miles on car 50k or 250k miles>?
no other DTC, did you use scan tool? and one that read ALL VW DTC. if not FAIL. you will.

how can I fix.?
you want to fix the car or the TB?
most cars, its a new TB.
im not VW savvy, (can fix any car) but not their policies.
anyone can go to vw.com and to the parts page and see what is sold
anyone. just do it.
my guess, is you didnt read the FSM yet, on this failure
why not? it explains how to isolate the true cause.
4th generation and 5 sub types. from FUN to blue motion.....
2002 to 2009
P1568
got others?>

* VW DTC 17579 (P1171) - Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Signal 2 Range/Performance
* VW DTC 17950 (P1542) - Throttle Actuation Potentiometer Range/Performance
* VW DTC 17953 (P1545) - Throttle Position. Contr Malfunction
* VW DTC 17976 (P1568) - Idle Speed Control; Throttle Position - Mechanical Malfunction

so what does it mean.
it means idle can not be controls for any of many reasons.
the tech makes sure the engine runs ok, is in closed loop hot.
if not we fix that first , because misfiring or bogging engines the idle can be impossible to control.
then check that the throttle butterfly plat is not sticking (clean it)
if the throttle motor sticks the motor is bad. end of live for TB.
my guess is you dont have a scan tool, am I right>?

fixing cars with out one, is a bad idea.
engines can go lean and stall or surge.
engines can go rich misfire and stall.
we make sure that is not happening first and
the law is, IDLE is the last thing to work right on all EFI engines.
hell carbs. (ever get a vacuum leak with a carb ,it stalls)

I have no idea.

the mechanic told you repairing an oil leak (valve cover gaskets?) would fix a stalling problem? did these electrical problems start after you got the van back? possible ground wire left off or loose, freestars have alot of issues with the engine computers getting wet from rainwater, and other electrical problems. someone needs to scan all the computers for fault codes that may lead to a direction in diagnosing your problem. does the engine still stall? If you took your car in to get engine dying problem resolved and they sold you valve cover gaskets as the solution to your problem you may want to try a different shop. Be careful, I myself am a mechanic for 20 years and I have seen some mechanics who love money, but they dont invest the time needed in training to honestly do their job correctly. cars are changing, technicians have to be very skilled in electrical systems to repair cars today. find a reputable repair shop would be my advice for you. sorry for your troubles

My jeep liberty 2002 stalls like hell can you help?

I'm not real familiar with how hell stalls. The hell that I have been through goes on and on and I WISH it would stall....LOL

With that said, Jeeps are known for bad crankshaft position sensors causing engine stalling.

Car keeps stalling when brakes applied, then starts but turns off

I dont know why, but one time my truck was low on trans fluid and after I topped it off, it didnt stall anymore when put into gear. as fro the odometer i dont know, it may have to go out completely before any diagnosis can be done.

Our Buick Lesabre stalls unless we keep our foot on the gas. If we take the foot off it stalls.

I've been having the same problem on my Dodge Dakota. I went through a few things, Map sensor, oxygen sensor, but it ended up being the Idle Air Control Sensor or Valve. Check that out. I took mine off and cleaned it up inside with Brake Cleaner. Works alot better. Will eventually have to change it, but it's good for now. It doesn't stall practically at all anymore. Hope this helps a little.
