The computer is mounted under the hood on either the driver side fender well or on the firewall.

Have a 03 dodge ram 1500 and truck won't start and getting codes 0223,2122,1618,0643,0688, and 2 others can't remember what they where. Please help what is wrong

Tons of possibilities so start with the easiest. The battery. Yep common thread to your codes is a voltage issue and these trucks are know. To act weird when a battery gets weak. Have the battery and alternator tested (a voltmeter won't do here. .they need to be load tested). Next would be to check all your terminals and grounds. If all that is ok i would suspect a bad computer - simply because of how many codes you have. A GOOD mechanic should be able to test the computer to make sure it is generating the right voltages and data. Thus takes specialized training and equipment and is not something the average mechanic is going to know how to do. It will cost you a few bucks but it's better than buying parts you don't need.

First I can't. Second, How do you know for sure the computer is bad? There are many tests to do before saying a computer is bad. were they done? or did some one tell you that it is probably the computer?

1997 mercury sable no odt on obd but engine light is still On!! What should i do??

There are no computers used to work on any vehicle

There are no codes that tell you what is wrong or to
replace anything

You use the codes along with factory manuals to learn the
system your working on & follow trouble charts until you have
something to component test

You didn't do any of that, you don't know the system, the testing required
to find a problem

Need a repair shop

How do I troubleshoot my 1993 Saturn sl1 the fan doesn't work so the car overheats, beings I'm a female, tired of depending on a am , please help

If you know for a fact the cooling fan is why the engine overheats, you would test the relay and the signal from the computer.
The relay gets power from the battery circuit and the key switch, and a ground signal from the computer when the fan is needed.
The engine temp sensor tells the computer how hot the engine is, and when it reaches 220 degrees the computer grounds the relay providing power to the fan motor.
You would need a meter or a test light and the wiring diagram for the circuit to find the problem.

This is for an Aerostar 96 3.0 it shows a code P0302 it is for cylinder number 2 missfire. I changed the spark plugs and wires, the problem still.

Hello jguzmangalve: My name is Roger and I will help. Having replaced the plug and wire already. Have you checked the compression on the dead cylinder. Any compression less than 100 psi. the cylinder will not fire. I would also test the injector plug. You can do this with a test light. Ground the test light start the engine and test the plug to the wire harness. One of the terminals should have power. the lamp should flash. If the one terminal flashes you have power. Take the test lead from ground and place it to positive power. Touch the test light to the opposite wire terminal end. The test lamp should also flash. This test the computer is capable of grounding the injector. This will generally find the problem. Should you need further help please just ask. PLease rate the answer you received. This way I know it was helpful. THank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Plymouth voyager won't start

You need to voltage drop test the starter electrical circuit . Do you know how to use a DVOM- digital volt ohm meter ? Do you know what a wiring diagram is an how to read one , so you know what wires to test ?

I'm pretty sure this is because the starter died ????? Never assume , test don't guess ! And if you don't know how to test automotive electrical systems your best bet ,take it to someone who does .
Test the heavy positive cable to the starter , corrosion cause's unwanted resistance and a no start or slow crank . You test with voltage drop .
Starter Voltage Drop

Or you test the control side through the starter motor relay ! Do you know what a relay is ?
On this video he shows a horn relay but the starter motor relay works the same .
VEHICLE RELAYS Operation Diagnosis

Find free wiring diagrams here Enter vehicle info. year , make , model and engine size. Under system click on engine then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link . You will see the PCM - engine computer turns on the starter motor relay .

The only way to condem a computer is by testing every component related to your problem. Then test the ground and power to the computer. Then clean every engine and body ground/ Then test for proper reference voltage and ground to the sensors. Then look at the compuer data and see if it reads the same as when you tested at the sensor. Then check the resistance in the signal wire if something is not the same. If 0ohms resistance then you prabably have a defective computer. Remember any system in a computer can become defective. You need to know what info is correctly making it to the computer and then what output control the computer is suppose to command. This is what you test. If you know the info is being delivered, then you test the output control at the pcm for the proper command., easy huh, lol

the pcm (computer)is beside the battery under the hood.
1 remove the battery (disconnect cables and undo the battery tie down)
2 remove and set aside the pdc (Power distribution center)(don't unhook the wires) its beside battery (2 screws)
3 unplug and remove the pcm (2 electrical plugs and 3 bolts)
Hope this helps!
