Hi Kevin,

White smoke is indicative of water (or coolant) evaporating in the heat put out by your motor. The good news is that it stops. The likely cause is condensation that formed over night is burning off.

So, riddle me this:

Do you experience loss of power?
Coolant levels inexplicably getting lower?
White froth on the dipstick?
Oil in the coolant?

If not, there's probably nothing to worry about. But let's err on the side of caution. Have a compression test done on all cylinders. This is the easiest, cheapest and fastest way to tell if a head gasket has failed.

Best regards
Mike

White smoke usually means engine coolant do half to ever add coolant this means head gaskets coolant sets on top of piston and when you start the car it burns off the coolant but it could just be exhuast gases

Bought a 02 impala. engine replaced 2-3 years ago. ac only cool on the passenger side and only getting about 10 a gallon and once white smoke was coming out of the exhaust. Any ideas on these issues??

You have 2 faults here. Get a good local mechanic to run through a few basic tests, cylinder compression, oil in the water, water in the oil. Rough running. My guess the head gasket has gone because white smoke is usually water in the engine.
Your AC is down to a further investigation.

I think my egr valve on my 2005 2ltr Jaguar Xtype needs cleaning, how can I do this. I had it done about four years ago when the car lost power and back smoke was coming from exhaust. the car has started...

what you need is carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner then unbolt it from your engine, unplug everything hooked up.to it then place a shop towel over the opening left on your engine for nothing falls in then take your EGR valve and place it on newspapers, or towels and spray the heck out of it, let it sit after spraying it, and repeat after you got it cleaned up, let it air out for a bit, and bolt and hook it back up, this is just a temporary fix it sounds like you are running rich if you have a scan tool, check your fuel trims they just might be off a little bit, if it took.about 4 years to.start smoking again, but if you are going to be keeping it for some time, then I would check the fuel trims or have them checked.and fix, it.could be.something as easy as a vacuum leak

I have a 2006 Jaguar S-Type, on some times when stopped at lights i get white / blue smoke come from the engine front near side, Jaguar seems to think this is normal, but not to sure , does anyone els

no smoke is normal unless from an exhaust when cold. Sounds like you have an oil leak, some how the oil is dripping onto the exhaust.
No self respecting Jaguar dealer would say this is normal.

White smoke, water vapor at initial start-up. drives a few miles, smokes again. could it be a vacuum regulator? 2001 jaguar s-type

Water vapor coming out of the exhaust at initial start-up is normal; that is condensation that collects when the engine is not running. White smoke at start-up depends on a couple of things. Tell me, where do you live? When the weather is very cold, all engines will emit steam (white smoke) when they are first running; this stops after the engine has been running a while and is warm.

In short, if this is only happening at first start of the morning and goes away over time, there is nothing wrong.

If, however, the "white smoke" continues and never stops, you may have a blown head gasket.

Exhaust smoke - 1994 XJ6 4.0

you have bad valve seals again and it is possible that the valve guides are bad ( to much play ) i worked for Jaguar 13 years and i have done 100's of these and very few needed guides it sound like the seals where not done correctly at the last repair.

White smoke out the exhaust

You will need to check head gasket. Please check the oil for coolant (milky deposition or presipitation). Also check if you loosing coolant and if coolant has oil in it.
Please kindly let me know if you need more info
Good Luck

Black smoke from exhaust

This is almost certainly a split hose - mine was the large hose coming out of the bottom of the EGR valve.

Speaking to a parts guy at my local Jaguar dealer, he said that the new part is uprated as Jaguar are aware that this is a problem.

The split allows more air in and results in the ECU changing the mixture and over fuelling - Black smoke is an indication of un-burnt Diesel. As well as the black smoke you may also notice a whistle/whine or sucking noise when you accelerate and a lack of power / lumpiness at around 2000rpm.

Hope that helps!

the white smoke is oil smoke, check your valve stem seals,if they are bad it will smoke till it burns the oil that leaked by when it was sitting.as far as it stalling in the morning check your choke it may need adjusting.
