You should replace the front and rear seals. You don't know how long they have been exposed, and If they let the torque converter sit Hanging on the front seal. It no big deal if the rear seal of the trans is leaking, but the front seal would requor you to pull it back out.

Be sure you adjust the throttle pressure just right, it is not kick down on this trans, it actually controls the pressure while shifting and if you set it to shift too soon it will burn up the trans,

Be very careful to line the T.C. up in the pump. Spin it around until you hear it lock in place. When it is all the way in you can't put your fingers between the tc and The bell. Be careful when you put it up in and make sure it does not move forward as you align with the pump.

The The T.C. on the older Chrysler's are not an even bolt pattern. It balances the engine so lo9ok for the hole that is off on the flywheel and match it to the one on the TC before you install. Mark the TC and the Flywheel. Make the odd one be the first hole you install and do not tighten the TC bolts all the way until all four are in. then go around and tighten.

Have fun.Hope this helps.

Transmission replaced with salvaged part now gears won't engage worked for 1 month after install?

You never install salvage yard transmissions or transfer
cases,including a manual trans

A salvage yard is for parts no longer made or rebuilt
& mostly for a hobby or restoration project

They are possibly worn more than the one you replaced

Buy a completely rebuilt factory reman & install it

It doesn't matter about the salvage yard or installer

Your correct, they may be sort of being even employed
in the auto repair field, unfortunately you should have asked
first, about that type of work, repair, etc.

1992 Ramcharger LE 2wd 5.2L , Transmission would not work except reverse. I replaced it with a used transmission 3 weeks later transmision wont pull in any gear. Whats the problem?? Help

If you suspect it is the used transmission (from a salvage yard?), most salvage yards will give you a 30 day warranty, which doesn't include labor. You've got about a week to decide and let them know.

I need to know where the transmission filter goes on my 2004 hyundia sonata 4 cycle.

Trans filter is attached to bottom of transmission. You must drain & remove transmission pan to access it.

2002 Cadillac deville transmission will not engage. Car will crawl when transmission engaged but that's about it. Is this an expensive fix

Yes, it can be expensive. You can change the filter and fluid and hope for the best, if you haven't already. Next is to get a transmission installed at a salvage yard, get a reconditioned transmission thru a parts store or get a local re-builder with a guarantee.

Y 2002 dodge grand caravan sport 3.3 ,have problem engaging transmission into drive in cold weather, transmission will slip in&out before engaging.

If your transmission has gone your best option is a factory rebuild. Most modern transmissions are very sensitive to having clean fluid. You may just be having an issue with dirty ATF automatic transmission fluid. Try a fluid change with the correct ATF.
If this does not work and you have around $2000 to $2500 to spare the Chrysler dealer installed factory rebuild with 36.000 mile warranty is your best option for fixing the Caravan. Any small shop offering the same service for a couple hundred less could be more trouble than it is worth. If you go with the salvage yard transmission there is no warranty on the installation and you could end up paying to install 2 or 3 before you get a good one.

Need new gear box

It all depends on what you want for a transmission. If you can find a good used one at a salvage yard it will probably run you around $700 to $900, figure on about $400 to have it installed with new fluid and filter. What I recommend to my customers is a Jasper transmission, they come with a 3 yr/100,000 mile warranty. A used one at a salvage yard if you are lucky will have a 90 day warranty. The Jasper will usually run about $3000 installed. If it's a vehicle you plan on keeping and driving for a while I'd go the Jasper route, if you plan on selling it as soon as you get it going go the used route if you can find a good low mileage one. Good luck

Most cars with an A/T require the transmission to be hot, engine idling in park, to check the fluid level, but not all. On some you check it cold engine off. The problem with not knowing for sure is that overfilling the transmission can damage it. For that reason I suggest you get that owner's manual you are missing. Sources are dealer, salvage yard, e-bay, and many on-line sites. Search with the term, "Automobile Owner's Manual". Draining and changing the fluid can either be accomplished by removing the drain plug if it has one or by removing the return line from the radiator and with a helper starting the engine and allowing the trans pump to pump the fluid out one quart at a time. Pump out one quart in a clear container and then stop the engine and add a quart of fresh fluid. Keep doing this until you see clear clean fluid. This will actually remove all the fluid and is better than just draining the transmission pan, which only removes some of the fluid. You will also need to know the exact type fluid to add. A call to the dealer can get you this info.
