Check engine light comes on every time I get into high altitude

Each time I go to an altitude of 6000 ft, my 1998 Ford F150 check engine light comes on. An auto shop said I had 2 problems and not to worry because they would all go away when I got back to sea level. As soon as I descend, it goes off. However now I live above 600 ft and the light comes and goes.

We need a trouble code to at least where to start helping you. one thing that is vital is a BARO reading of your location(call the local airport, should be approx 29-30) and the BARO PID reading of your truck,it should read approx 155-156 ....if it reads like 140 the MAF sensor will need to be replaced.

The light will reset after the system has time to self test--about an hour on the road should be good. If it doesn't reset, many parts stores have a free scan service, and you can ask them to clear codes.

The engine light does not mean there is something wrong.
It just means there is a code that has been stored, for you to read.
The light will stay on until you read the code and reset it.
A place like Autozone can do it for you for free.

Oil level shows about 1.5 qts high oil changed 6


If you added oil level before engine was warm
Then when engine is warm you recheck the level
Oil Expands with heat
let it cool down and then re-check if its too much drain a touch off.

I have a 1990 f150 that has an unstable idle. The idle fluctuates and sometimes the engine dies at stop signs and red lights. I have changed the IAC and the TPS and cleaned the outer part of the throttle...


The ford timing advancement might be either sticking if it is automatic adjusting or that the timing is out of whack. Try advancing the timing to the altitude you are located in. I had in my experience replaced everything needed by the Haynes manual which also constituted as a tune up but, the real problem laid in the timing

surely this didn't just happen one day. did you mess with the wiring harness or have someone mess with it . you can also check the fuses under the hood . you have some major stuff happening there. good luck

2001 Accent stick shift sputters in low gears and at high speed.


I suspect the timing is off since timing belt replacement was mentioned. The altitude would be read by the various sensors in the engine and computer and would be compensated accordingly.

ABS light came on as well as check engine light


There are sensor's in all the wheel and one sensor could be bad or may need to be re-adjusted if it was knocked out of alignment. Good luck and as for the check engine light, that could be something different.
