1984 mitsubishi 2.0 truck engine, I need to line up the cam and crank to get the timing belt on? is there a picture to look at?

A lot of work. You will need to remove an engine mount, all plastic covers, turn the engine so that all timing marks line up with the little marks on the engine. Release the tension on the timing belt, remove the belt, put the new belt on, let the tension go back onto the belt, ensure that neither cam has moved away from the mark. Ensure that the crankshaft is still on the mark, then reassemble the outer covers, install the serpentine belt and the mount. Please go to the internet and search for videos and pictures. How to lline up timeing marks


on the crank there is a mark on the engine a mark its like a line on the backside of the engine and a spot on the crank sprocket on the top at the cam should have a hole in the center of the cam sprocket with a red line on the head top near valve cover it should line up properly or if you have 2 marks on the cam sprocket -- one on each side of the sprocket and on the engine side or cover should have 2 marks as well that line up do not take off the timing belt until you have all the marks properly lined up then you can remove the belt but do not turn over the engine without installing the new belt

Here are the written instructions, i do not have the pictures, it is a very good set of instructions and clearly written.

Required tools:

13mm open end wrench 10mm shallow and deep socket 8mm socket long flathead screwdriver 17mm deep socket T50 torx socket 1/4", 3/8ths and 1/2" ratchets and extensions E10 inverted torx sockets 6mm Allen wrench 15mm open end wrench 7mm socket 12mm open end wrench 14mm socket 12mm socket 8mm, 9mm and 10mm Allen head sockets 19mm socket pry bar needle nose pliers

If you are doing this because your timing belt broke you will also need to buy a complete cylinder head, head gasket set, and both idler pulleys. ALL DAEWOO MODELS WILL BREAK THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES WHEN THE TIMING BELT BREAKS.

Start by removing the air cleaner assembly from the throttle body, remove the air filter and housing jack up the vehicle and remove the wheel, remove the plastic shielding in front of the accessory drive belt assembly, remove the accessory drive belt, place a jack with a block of wood on top underneath the engine oil pan remove the front engine mount, remove the crank shaft pulley ( the 4 Allen head bolts only not the 17mm bolt in the center.) remove the metal plate behind the engine mount bracket on the engine, remove the plastic timing belt cover 3 clips on top 2 10mm bolts on bottom. Rotate the engine until the #1 cyl. is at Top Dead Center on the compression stroke or line up the crankshaft timing mark with the mark on the inner timing belt cover ( notch in cover with notch in pulley) on the camshaft pulleys -- ( intake cam line up the line on the pulley with the line on the inner cover)( exhaust cam line up the arrow on the pulley with the arrow on the inner cover) loosen the 13mm bolt in the belt tensioner and using the Allen wrench rotate the tab until there is slack in the belt. Remove the belt. At this time I would recommend you replace the water pump, both plastic idler pulleys as they tend to overheat and lockup, and the belt tensioner. Make sure all your marks are lined up, you may need a helper to hold the Exhaust Cam in place as it tends to move during belt installation. Put the timing belt underneath the crankshaft pulley, install the belt leaving the intake cam for last and NO BELT SLACK on the right side between the crank and the exhaust cam. Once the belt is installed rotate the crankshaft over 2 revolutions and make sure is rotates freely, and your timing marks are aligned perfectly if not the engine will not run properly, tension the belt as needed. Installation is the same as removal.

How to adjust engine timing with new timing belt installed.


If you installed the timing belt correctly, you won't need to adjust the timing. If your timing is incorrect after doing the belt, you'll need to remove the belt again and install it with the cam and crank marks lined up properly.

Ive put a new waterpump an timing belt into my 94 gsr an i need to no how to set the timing on the top end. IM REALLY GRATEFULL IF ANYONE NO'S THE SETTINGS????????


There are specific marks on the cam pully and the crank pully that line up with marks on the block for the crank pully and on the timing belt cover for the cam pully they need to be lined up to get correct timing.

remove auxilary belt remove one bolt from timing belt cover remove cover turn engine to tdc using socket on crank nut check cam pulleys lined mark with white paint or tipex remove 4 bolts on crank pulley then centre pulley nut use impact gun prise of pulley check all marks still lined up buy or borrow universal cam sproket lock tool this is important to stop cams moving when belt of release tensioer remove belt chek water pump for leaks and wear fit new tensioner then new belt keep tight on non tension side feed over sprokets tension belt to align pointer on tensioner turn engin 2 times re check timing marks fit all parts removed

Timing belt replacement


yeah you can do it without the special tools, i work at a dealer and i dont even use the special tools,,,once you get the timing belt cover off,rotate the engine till all the timming marks line up,there are notches on the timing belt backing plate and they match the marks on the cam sprockets,now thew cam all the way to the left is 1 then 2 and 3 and 4 being all the way to the right becarefull the cams have more than one number on them so make sure the #1 on the #1 cam is up and #2 on 2 cam and so forth,otherwise you will bend the valves and ruin your engine,,,the crank sprocket has a mark on it as well as does the oil pump to line it up youll see it thru the passenger side tire well,,,then remove the 13mm nut from the tensioner,its the one all the way to the left under the cam sprocket #1,,and then remove the belt,,,now when u put the new belt on start atthe number 2 cam sprocket and put it on ,,there are no marks on belt to line up so its very important you have all marks on cams and crank lined up,,,then after its on #2 go around the upper tensioner pulley between #2 and #3 cam and make it tight and wrap it on #3 and the #4 sometimes u gotta move the cam a hair to get the teeth to line up on the belt so it goes on but it will all line up perfect in the end,then go around #1 make sure all cam are lined up and belt is tight,,you can not have it off even a tooth,,,then go around #4 to idler and around crank on right side and on left side go around crank too,now i usually use small vise grips with very light pressure to keep the belt on the cams,so they dont jump,,,then pull down on the right and turn crank front 2 teeth and put belt on crank and then put crank back to normal spot and then all you excess slack should be right where the tensioner is at the left that you took off before,keep all the slack there,,,,and the put the tensioner on while holding the belt tight and then use a allen wrench and 13mm wrench to adjust and tighten belt tensioner,,,,make sure all your marks line up,,, osometimes if you havent done this before it may be easier to have another set of hands to help you hold thingss

How to you install a water pumpon a 3.5 97 dodge


Remove the hood bracket bar, 4bolts, then the fan shroud assembly, then the belts, belt adjuster, and timing covers, line up the cam gears, crank gear to the marks , cam has 1 dot, they line up to timing housing 2 dots, (single dot to middle of the 2 dots), crank has 1 dot to mark on the oil pump housing to your right of crank gear, thats TDC. now remove the timing belt tensioner, 2 bolts, and remove the belt, if the pump has leaked, replace the belt, and tensioner if it is NOT metal Pulley, the fibre one will break down from the antifreeze. its a good idea to replace the water pump housing orings behind it, ac bracket has to come off, as the right cam on engine, this not a retiming iussue with the gear.
