Oil Change and High pressure

I just did an Oil change in my truck. It's a 5.3 Litre, I put 5 L's of oil in it and now the Oil pressure is running between 275 and 400. Why is it so high? What can I do?

To be specific it is a 5.3 L, 1500 ext cab.

It takes 6 quarts of oil - not 5 litres. 5 litres = 5.28 qts.

Low oil pressure/ guage fluxuates but runs low

Sounds like a valve lifter or in queens english a hydraulic tappet ,Now what i used to do on the rover V8 was to add a tin of gunk brand name exterior engine cleaner and then let customer have the car back and do some miles,or as soon as the noise stopped ,then change the oil and filter and add the diesel/petrol turbo engine oil as this is detergent and then change the oil every 5/6000 miles with a oil filter every third oil change ,if no engine cleaner then try half a litre of diesel or just change the oil for one detergent type diesel engine oil you will not hurt the engine using this oil the cheaper it is the better as well .In extreme cases i give a 2 second squirt of fairy washing up liquid to the oil as well ,has to be fairy mind them cheapos are no good for this job .Stop worring about it and just do as i say

Oil pump seems to only work at high rpm/ a lifter or valve is ticing on driver side need to know what to do its soposed to be new motor

no oil pressure at low rpms is most likely caused by sludge in engine i had a car once that had no oil pressure at all loud ticking on rocker arms my advice that my dad gave me was drain all the oil buy 2 gasllons of diesel put on gallon in oil (has enough oil in it to lubricate but will not burn like gas do to no spark and not enough pressure) run with the diesel in it for 5 minutes drain that gallon of diesel and put second gallon of diesel in and run for an additional 5 minutes when you drain that last gallon of diesel it should be a brown color but still transparent change filter and put new oil in and check to see if that has solved your problem

do not start vehicle ,drop the sump and clean it out with caustic ,also the oil pump pick up pipe ,then put the oil back in and start ,if ok then put half a litre of diesel into the oil and 3 good squirts of fairy liquid, then run engine for a week and change the oil again, use a cheap diesel /petrol oil from the supermarket ,not that fancy rip off synthetic long life ****.change oil every 6000 miles with a oil filter every third oil change

put half a litre of diesel in the oil and three second squirt of fariy liquid ,no cheap stuff allowed ,run for about a week and drain oil, then with the new oil in ,using the cheapest diesel oil you can get repeat again with diesel and fairy ,by this time they should have quitened down a lot, then change oil again using a diesel oil for a turbo truck change filter as well and then change oil every 6000 miles and a filter every third oil change

Don't start after oil change

I HAVE A TROOPER 3.O L THE SAME AS YOU AND I KNOW THAT WHEN CHANGING OIL YOU MUST USE 5-30 OR 5-40 FOR THIS ENGINE REASON BEING IS THAT THE OTHER GRADE DOESNT CREATE THE SAME OIL PRESSURE AND IF THE OIL PRESSURE IS NOT CORRECT THESE ENGINES WILL NOT RUN BEEN THERE DONE THAT

Oil gauge goes up and down.

If grounding the dash does not work, try putting a mechanical gauge on it and reading actual oil pressure. Pressure does change while driving, but should not wander. With mechanical gauge, check that running hot at idle (in gear if automatic) pressure should not drop lower than 15psi (I'd rather see 20) High reading should be around 40 -50 but no higher.Low pressure indicates a loss of supply or bad bearing on the crankshaft, high pressure may be caused by sticking pressure relief or restriction in an oil passage.

Oil pressure too high

nothing wrong ignore and stop worrying, change oil every 6000miles and use cheapest from supermarket, change oil filter every third oil change to save money and pollution of the disposal of old oil filter. If you worried about high pressure then stop beleaving the adverts for synthetic oil and putting in oil thickening agents like slick or duckhams. You could get the sender units changes for the oil pressure but just go for a burn and enjoy and stop worrying its only a car when all is said and done

The sensor can show high pressure when that is not the case, they fail high not low, take the sender out and plug in a mechanical guage to verify this, that is the only way to be 100% sure.
